The Colonization and Commercial Company of Bolivia, a joint-stock company incorporated in San Francisco, California, in 1869, promoted settlement of the Bolivian lowlands to American and European settlers by offering 160 acres of free land and $1 per acre thereafter. To assuage concerns about this new and wild frontier, the company's officials characterized Indigenous people as ready "to engage in the service of the white race wherever they are kindly and justly dealt with in occupations congenial to their natures that are not too laborious a character." The suggestion that Manifest Destiny ended in California does not consider the commodification of lands outside the United States, where newer frontiers were being created by local politicians determined to civilize their Indigenous population with American settlers and American values. One hundred and fifty-five years later, the perception of Indigenous people as subservient and weak still serves as fodder for politicians wishing to regain power in Bolivia. This practice creates division among the Bolivian populace and detracts attention from issues affecting the country as a whole.

Resettling these people is a Temporary Solution, it does not address the bigger problems NCD, Central and the struggling workforce are facing. I have lived in these settlements, among police officers, government officers, health workers, teachers, you name it, and it surprises me that none of them are speaking out against such cruelty by the government and the government's superfund, or are they too ashamed? The housing allowances that the government pays their staff is not practical to be living in the suburbs in POM. And now the government is paying K20m to the landowners to resettle these population at Portions of land that is still under dispute between the same landowners and NCD. 10 years or so down the line, the same problem will arise, when a big company comes in with cash to claim ownership of the land the settlers are now being relocated to, leaving no land for the landowners to pass down to their kids. They will soon become spectators in their own land. The land at Bush Wara is worth more than K20 million Kina. NSL rejected K60 million from the government, and with no support from the Central Governor and the Hiri-Koari MP, it seems that the landowners had no choice but to accept the K20m to sell off their birthright. I'm totally flabbergasted. Also, there is no mention of the remaining K40m.
#TopStory: SOME of the evicted Bush Wara settlers will be resettled at Farea under a K20 million land partnership program outside Port Moresby. Read more here: ( https://lnkd.in/grb_6Tkc )

As a Puerto Rican, I feel compelled to address recent remarks made about Puerto Rico at a Trump political rally. Puerto Ricans take immense pride in their heritage, resilience, and identity, and it’s disheartening to see any part of our community reduced to a harmful stereotype. Respectful discourse is essential, especially in settings where the goal is unity and inclusivity. In today’s political landscape, humor often pushes boundaries, but there’s a fine line between humor and insensitivity. We can all benefit from constructive, respectful dialogue that reflects the values we wish to uphold. Let’s strive for inclusivity and understanding—qualities that not only resonate deeply with the Puerto Rican community but also strengthen our collective vision for a more united future.

The most common national day of celebration on the planet is independence from Britain. Britain has so much wealth because they colonized and robbed so much of the world. This included the slave trade and trade in so many goods and services. This was not all of Britain. Rich corporations and citizens carried out this theft of wealth. The theft has continued in the 20th century and beyond. Britain’s rich are simply colonizing the rest of the British population; robbing them of wealth and basic necessities in order to maintain/expand the political power of the ruling elite class in Britain. The privatize rail system is one example of rich people pulling profits out of the operation of the rail system. They are doing the same thing with the water supply system in Britain. #TaxTheRich #TaxCorporations #NoBillionaires #Greed

⭐ Standing Strong: A Proud Response to Puerto Rico's Misrepresentation⭐ As a proud Puerto Rican and advocate for underrepresented communities, I feel compelled to address recent comments that have been directed at my heritage. During a recent rally, Puerto Rico was referred to as a “floating island of garbage.” These words don’t merely harm our island’s reputation—they diminish the spirit, resilience, and pride of an entire people who have faced countless challenges with unmatched determination. Puerto Rico is much more than stereotypes and misconceptions. It’s a place of vibrant culture, history, and innovation. Its people are proud, resilient, and have contributed immensely to industries, communities, and causes across the world. Despite natural disasters, economic hardships, and social challenges, Puerto Ricans continue to prove their resilience and dedication to growth and progress. For those of us in positions to drive change and inspire understanding, let’s be intentional in advocating for respect and inclusivity. Diversity isn’t just a box to check; it’s the backbone of our strength and the catalyst for real innovation and empathy in our world. Puerto Rico is not floating debris; it’s a pillar of strength. As we move forward, let’s remember the value of our voices, stand firm in our identity, and uplift others along the way. #ProudPuertoRican #DiversityAndInclusion #RespectOurRoots #Empowerment
