Continuing our support of COLORFUL, the free-to-enter competition for BIPOC creatives who qualify to enter The One Club for Creativity's Young Guns, we have extended the Sunday Afternoon mentorship to this year's COLORFUL winner, Jappy Agoncillo. Jappy is an Artist, Illustrator, and Muralist based in New York City, born in Manila, Philippines in 1995. His work can be described as colorful and dynamic - displaying bold, playful, and iconic visuals reminiscent of things from comics to cartoons, street art to skateboarding, and punk rock to posters, all things of which he was heavily influenced by. For the latest cover of XXL Magazine/xxlmag.com, Ahmed Klink created a graphic and colorful approach to capture Detroit MC Big Sean. Before the shoot, Sean mentioned becoming a father has been an incredibly reflective moment for him — So, Ahmed and set designer Michael Sturgeon brought mirrors for maximal art direction. The shapes in the second image are giant squares hand-painted by Michael and inspired by super simple and kid-friendly graphic patterns. Tommy Perez recently worked on a social campaign for HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams. For this campaign, Tommy created home worlds in his signature paper style using the color pallet offering, which consumers can select and receive directly by mail. All the objects were made out of paper, and Tommy handled the stop-motion animation. The refrigerator is my fav.
