Why do we idolize "fail fast, fail often" but still avoid talking about failure as founders? In a world where success stories dominate, it’s easy to think you’re the only one navigating the lows of entrepreneurship. But that’s far from the truth. Our founder gets real about her own journey in this candid op-ed in Digital Frontier. From the emotional toll of shutting down ventures to finding the courage to rebuild, her insights are a must-read for any founder. https://buff.ly/4gvrYy8

Small Business Saturday is almost here, and we’re all about celebrating the courage, creativity, and grit of small businesses everywhere. Every small business is more than just a company—it’s a story. Of late nights. Of big dreams. Of communities coming together. And of course, endless rounds of coffee. This year, we want to shine a light on the businesses that started fresh in 2024. Whether it’s a SaaS tool that’s changing how you work, an app that’s simplifying your daily life, or your own labor of love—this is their moment to be celebrated! Tag a small business you’ve seen thrive this year, or share the one you’ve built yourself. Let’s give them (and you) the recognition they deserve and spread the word about the incredible entrepreneurs shaping our neighborhoods and economy. #SmallBusinessSaturday

No one launches a startup without deep passion for their original idea — so how do you decide when it's time to pivot? A big thing to consider, says Dave Rosen, former CEO of WIMO Games, is your set of core assumptions: "When you launched the business, you made certain critical assumptions about market size, customer interest, or foundational technologies. If [there's evidence that a change in those assumptions] means a significant increase in risk, it’s time to pivot." You can learn so much from successful founders, but I'd argue that, perhaps, you can learn even more from founders who have failed. Grateful to my co-panelists Jason Patel and Akshaya D. for sharing the stage with me last week to open up about our own journeys and what it really means to get the wind knocked out of us, over and over again, and still get back up to build another day. It was a raw, honest hour-long dialog that quite frankly I'm still processing. Plenty of laughs were had — and even more moments of reflection, which will undoubtedly be the topic of my posts for the next few weeks. In the meantime, until I find the words, a round of thanks goes to: ❤️ Jessica Shen of Asian Founders Club for co-hosting and moderating; 💙 Victoria Lee and the Welcome To Chinatown team for having us at their brand new Small Business Innovation Hub; 💛 our food and drink sponsors, MìLà and Jumo, for feeding and hydrating us; 💜 the Starcycle team (Khadijatou Dibba, Evelynn Mak, Leshan Wang) for helping everything run smoothly.
