  • Space Florida closes out 2024 with a 187-project pipeline valued at $6.8 billion — an approximate 24% increase from the year before — underscoring its leadership in the global aerospace economy. Leveraging its unique structure and unmatched financial tools, Space Florida continues to set the standard for aerospace commerce. Florida’s aerospace dominance is evident in its record-breaking 90 launches in 2024, transporting over 1,300 payloads totaling 2.6 million pounds, leading America in the global integrated space-earth economy.    “Florida stands alone as the only state to designate space as an official mode of transportation, and its strategic infrastructure investment of nearly $565 million has driven an expected $4 billion in private capital — a threefold growth in just five years,” said Rob Long, president and CEO, Space Florida. “This past year highlights Florida’s commitment to driving the industry forward and finding creative ways to address key infrastructure challenges that must be addressed if we want to keep pace with industry growth." Vice President of Business Development | Certified Economic Developer

Space Florida was excited to participate in a round table event convened by Miami-Dade County Office of Innovation and Economic Development to discuss aerospace sector development in Miami-Dade and South Florida. Miami-Dade and South Florida have a strong aerospace history and is an area that is vital to the growth of aerospace in the state of Florida. The conversations centered on critical issues such as workforce, education and training, and positioning Miami-Dade and South Florida to attract and retain aerospace companies. Rob Long, President and CEO of Space Florida, provided a keynote presentation on the aerospace sector in Florida and how Space Florida is leveraging its unique financial tool kit to attract, retain and grow aerospace businesses in the State of Florida. He highlighted the growth of the aerospace sector statewide and discussed Miami-Dade and South Florida's strategic location which can be utilized to attract aerospace companies to the state and this region. In July 2024, Homestead Air Reserve Base and public lands adjacent to the base that were former parcels of Homestead Air Reserve Base, were designated as Spaceport Territory. This designation allows Miami-Dade to work with company to utilize Spaceport Improvement Program dollars to invest in infrastructure on spaceport territory. At Space Florida, we appreciate the community approach to the development of the aerospace industry. A specific thank you to James Kohnstamm, CEcD for organizing the event and allowing Space Florida to be a presenter and participant. Thank you to Mayor Daniella Lavine Cava for your support in commissioning this engagement and Commissioners Rene Garcia and Roberto Gonzales for your participation in the discussions. We thank all of the educational institutions and providers who participated, as you are critical in creating, what we believe, is one of the strongest aerospace workforces in the world. We have found that discussions related to the growth of the aerospace sector cannot happen without participation from the companies who are currently the backbone of the aerospace sector in the state of Florida, and many of those companies were represented. These conversations are critical for growth in Florida and Space Florida looks to engage with partners who want to understand how they can take advantage and participate in the growth of the aerospace sector in their communities and in the State of Florida.
