Coming off a great couple days last week in San Francisco, what were some of your biggest takeaways? Enjoy this recap from SAMPS board member, David Nathan. More to come!
Spent an action-packed 30 hours in San Francisco for the SAMPS Annual NA Conference this week, and had the pleasure of teaming up with Peter Nathan, most recently of New England Biolabs, to represent Scaler Marketing as an event sponsor. Here are my takeaways from the event. To kick off the event, our keynote speaker, Hamid Ghanadan of LINUS, suggested that innovation is a company-wide responsibility. He presented his 7 areas of marketing innovation: Reciprocity, Scarcity, Authority, Likeness, Availability, Consistency, and Consensus. You can't have innovation without change and we need to embrace change and find creative new ways of approaching these 7 psychological triggers. We then had the Management Panel, moderated by David Weber, where Lisa V. S. gave us permission to be willing to ask "stupid questions" because they can uncover the most valuable insights. Dara Grantham Wright, MBA talked about the power of going out into the wild, and finding out "who actually cares!" And Andrew J. Last challenged leadership to get really good at figuring out why there are problems and figuring out what people actually think of our brands. Richard Brooks, Ph.D. from Advanced Cell Diagnostics (ACD) took the stage next to talk about the crossroads between sales and marketing, and shared some valuable tech stack pieces that his team uses to manage data and help teams communicate and stay on brand. Jessica Kao of Cloudflare reminded us that 75% of decision-making is made before a lead ever speaks to a salesperson, so how are we controlling that process? Jenn Perkins of Crevi highlighted the three pillars every marketer must focus on: 1. Go-to-market strategy, 2. Value-centric brand messaging, and 3. Operational strategy across sales, marketing and customer success. Then we had our "Ask the Customer Anything" panel, hosted by Andy Bertera, where Richard Shan, Jason T. Gammack, Helena Mancebo and Justin L. spoke about their experiences on both sides of the buyer/seller journey and gave some valuable insights on what to do, what not to do, and the importance of making great impressions. Grace Lean stressed that we can't afford anything less than exceptional and reminded us that the 8-year-olds of today will one day be running the world, so we better learn how to speak their language. Chris Conner highlighted some amazing examples of company cultures and how these companies make culture a priority and go all in on their high standards. And finally, Mary Canady gave us some intriguing statistics and survey results highlighting the wants, needs, challenges and go-to strategies of marketers from around the industry. A huge well done to Stephen Archer and Jasmine Gruia-Gray for MCing this event and to David Weber, Andy Bertera and Mindy Lee-Olsen (Mindy Lee), my fellow SAMPS - Sales And Marketing Professionals in Science board members for teaming up to put on such an amazing event.
