We close out the year knowing a lot of people who have been affected by layoffs. They have hit across multiple industries, but those of us in marketing and communication roles seem especially affected. Rob Roy Consulting’s research associate Jesse A. Reynolds and I had a wonderful time with the Stockholm School of Economics Executive Education program this morning. We ran a three-hour workshop on Innovation Models, Gen AI, and Persuasive Storytelling, working with 45 thought-provoking and creative executives from multiple industries and backgrounds. Plus the facilities at Wharton Executive Education are so gorgeous! Special thanks to our good friends at SSE, Angelika Lindstrand and Karin Wistrom, for making this possible. It’s our 8th year with the program, and we learn something new every time. Can’t wait for our visit to Stockholm and SSE in late February!

As BCW and H&K merge to form Burson, my thoughts are with the people who may be feeling a little uncertain about the future. So I'm sharing a few tips for managing anxieties through a merger, whether they're your own or your team's. I went through the merger of H&K and Public Strategies back in 2010 when I was H&K's global technology practice lead. I know how nerve-wracking something like this can be, especially for those who haven't been through a merger before. This post is designed to not only be helpful to people going through this particular merger, but to anyone who's facing the uncertainty of a reorg. Thoughts from our founder and CEO on our seventh anniversary!
I founded Rob Roy Consulting in January 2017 with one core belief in mind: That the most persuasive thing we can do is to find the truest thing to say. This belief has sustained our team through all the ups and downs over the past seven years, and we’re proud to still be going strong. We’re also incredibly grateful to all our clients and partners for their unwavering commitment to this approach. We offer a wide variety of services across persuasive storytelling, speaker coaching, leadership training, research and influencer relations. We engage in both data-driven and emotionally honest conversations with our clients that sometimes require us to dig deep and face inconvenient facts. It makes our work even more rewarding, more meaningful, and ultimately more successful. The past seven years wouldn’t have been possible without the kind of clients and partners who value the truth. We owe our longevity to these people and this vision we share. In turbulent times, trust becomes even more paramount. Sales, stock price, employee retention, and board conversations are all rooted in trust. And if YOU don’t believe in what you’re saying, or if you’re not inspired by your own story, it’s hard to get anyone ELSE to believe in it or be inspired by it. But when you catch fire and do the hard work it takes to eliminate all the b.s. and spin from your message, and once you get down to the core truth you’re trying to communicate, it’s amazing what kind of impact that can have, both professionally and personally.
