The 12 states listed here allow optometrists to perform laser procedures. For 20 years, there was only one state on this list (Oklahoma), but in the last 13 years, 11 more have been added. “Are you seeing a trend?” Nate Lighthizer, OD, asked the room during his talk on YAG capsulotomy at #Academy2024 in Indianapolis. “Not too long ago, optometrists couldn’t even use drops to dilate an eye or prescribe oral antibiotics,” he pointed out. He encouraged ODs in states with an expanded scope to take advantage of the opportunity to better serve their patients and elevate the profession. #optometry #optometrist #AAO #AAO2024 #eyedoctor
