Thank you Terry Stanley and ADWEEK for sharing our story!
Sweeping, cinematic commercials seem to go in and out of vogue, for obvious reasons, as in, they're tough to create and even tougher to quantify. I like to see brands taking this kind of big swing--easy for me to say as an armchair quarterback and ad nerd--and I asked for the backstory of this beautifully executed Tonal campaign from Quality Experience. It's crunch time for the fitness industry (hahaha), and Tonal wanted something bold, different from what they've done before and what's typical in the category. They got it in the form of a 2-minute music-driven dialogue-free hero ad shot entirely in black and white, set in the Victorian era, aiming to contrast OG kettle bells and battle ropes with the Silicon Valley company's smart home gym. The message: this ain't your ancestor's workout. Check it out here: ADWEEK #marketingandadvertising #fitnessindustry Cristina Reina Ari Weiss Meg Douglass #sportsmarketing

Today we launch new work for Tonal - giving the brand a sharp and enduring focus to match an incredible product. Tonal truly Powers Progress for all that use it and pushes the whole fitness category forward. Massive thanks to the best client team: Meg Douglass, Maddie Guenther Kassan, Christopher Hunt, Grant Woodard, and Jacob Rauch. Shoutout to the brilliant Aube Perrie and the Pulse Films team along with our team of executive producers: Christina Carter and Sherri Levy and the QX team - Ari Weiss, Cristina Reina, Dan Gonda, Colleen Leddy and Shannon Kelley. We’re so proud to launch our very first work today in collaboration with our incredible partners at Shutterfly. This campaign marks a new brand platform for Shutterfly: “Make Something that Means Something”, positioning Shutterfly as the place for thoughtful, personalized cards and gifts. Our spot for Holiday Cards and our spot for Gifts both encourage people to embrace personal connection and meaning via their holiday cards and gifts—in contrast with the "meaningless stuff" that is often exchanged during the holiday season. And as a lead-up to the campaign, we infiltrated online shops where gifts are sold via a parody digital ecommerce brand—Meaningless Stuff— selling forgettable objects like novelty ties and candles with the words “Meaningless Stuff” etched into them. This was designed to draw attention to the sheer volume of thoughtless gifts exchanged during the holidays and solidify Shutterfly as the place to make something that means something. This all happened with our incredible partners - the team at Shutterfly: Callie Canfield Worthington, Laura Fegley, Bree Casart, Ashley Fossile, Leah Isbell, Danielle (Nadeau) Fischer, Lisa Tomassen; the amazing Noam Murro and team at Biscuit Filmworks , XYZ; our PR team at @E=mc2: Michelle McSorley, Elaine Underwood and the team LaFORCE, plus the teams at Parliament, Good Ear Music Supervision (GEMS), Royal Muster, KO Music and Work Editorial. And of course, the QX team Ari Weiss, Cristina Reina, Colleen Leddy, Dan Gonda, Shannon Kelley, Eduardo Quadra Gadseek Services, LLC and our wonderful EP Sherri Levy.
