As a former Catherine Hinman Fellow, I will say that this was a life changing experience! This fellowship not only allowed me to advance my skillset but my network as well. The program is very intentional and truly loops you in to the pulse of D.C. Silverado Policy Accelerator is a GREAT team to work with! I enjoyed every single day of my summer. Please help me share this opportunity around! (I am willing to talk about the experience with anyone interested)

WIN OF THE WEEK! As President of the Penn State Public Policy Association, I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with Penn State School of Public Policy for our annual Networking and Career Day event. It was an absolute joy to moderate the Young Professionals Panel with PSPPA's emerging young leader Asher Talty. I want to extend a huge thank you to our panelists for sharing their knowledge with us. Congratulations to this year’s Outstanding First Year Student, Brooklyn Graham! 🎉🥇 Each year, the Outstanding First Year Student Award recognizes a student who demonstrates high academic achievement in their courses while showing professionalism in their interactions with students, faculty and guests of the program. Beyond her academic commitments, Brooklyn has illustrated extraordinary dedication to the Penn State University School of Public Policy. She is a graduate assistant, participated in this year's Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) Simulation Competition, hosted by Metropolitan College of New York, and has recently secured the Catherine Hinman Fellowship at the Silverado Policy Accelerator in Washington DC. Brooklyn will soon take over as President of the Penn State Public Policy Association and plans to graduate in December of 2024. I am thrilled to announce the publication of my recent research article, "The Effect of Media on Human Perception of Violence" in the second edition of the Penn State Public Policy Journal. This work discusses how media exposure, especially violent content, shapes our perceptions and behaviors, despite living in one of the most peaceful eras in human history. This research also aims to provide policy strategies to address this public problem and reduce the effects of violent media. I invite all my connections to read my article and reflect on how media consumption may shape our view of the world. As president of the Penn State Public Policy Association (PSPPA), our association is dedicated to promoting the practice and research of public policy. The Penn State Public Policy Journal (PSPPJ) is one of the ways our association seeks to advance those goals by encouraging Penn State students from all disciplines to submit their own original research on policy fields of their choice. For the Spring 2024 | Volume 2 of the PSPPJ, I submitted my own research titled “Moving to Opportunity or Choosing to Stay? Effectiveness of Housing Choice Vouchers and Choice Neighborhoods Initiative on Demographic Change” which focuses on comparing two pivotal programs from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development” with Housing Choice Vouchers and the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative for their demographic effects on American families.
