Science reported the ‘new political environment could provide opening for groups that want to eliminate animal studies.’ “There are some very clear appointments that the community is very worried about,” says Melissa Tribelhorn, MPA, director of the Northwest Association for Biomedical Research. Science writes, “she fears they signal an antiscience mood that could erode public support for animal studies.” Tribelhorn dismisses the notion advanced by some advocacy groups that nonhuman animal research is wasteful since some research doesn’t create human cures. Tribelhorn called that argument “a willful misunderstanding and misconstruction of how science actually works”.
