CALL TO ACTION: We urge foundations to use your influence – and lawful ability to lobby in self-defense – to oppose H.R. 9495, the "Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act". If enacted, the bill would empower the U.S. Treasury Secretary to unilaterally deem nonprofits as terrorist-supporting organizations and revoke their tax exemptions with little due process. The vague language in the bill could be used against public charities and private foundations that support various human rights campaigns, reproductive rights, and environmental protections. This bill has passed the House and is headed to the Senate. This is the moment to call your Senators and register your opposition to the bill. For private foundations, the exception to restrictions on lobbying is "self-defense." Having your assets frozen with no due process is an existential matter that threatens the independence and operations of our sector. This is the moment this sector can and should step in and stop a bill that could be weaponized against nonprofits and foundations.

🌆 Insights from “Resilient Resolve: Supporting Justice in NYC’s Nonprofit Crisis” 🌆 Dive into our latest Program Insights piece where we dive into the key takeaways from "Resilient Resolve: Supporting Justice in NYC’s Nonprofit Crisis". The program featured Doug Bauer, Wes Caines, Kandra Clark, Sherene Crawford, Esq. and Taj Tabassoom unpacking the critical issues faced by NYC’s nonprofit community, which employs over 18% of the city's workforce and contributes billions to the local economy including: The current government contracting system is inefficient and places many nonprofits in a recurring cycle of operating with little to no resources every fiscal year. Existing bureaucratic systems have staggering effects that impact the ways funders support nonprofit partners and nonprofit staffers and, most importantly, the communities they serve. Cultivating the collective power of nonprofits and philanthropy can be one of the pathways to change. 🔗 Read the full insights here: https://lnkd.in/e_es-4qf #NonprofitSupport #Justice #NYCNonprofits #PhilanthropyNewYork

🗳️Boosting Philanthropic Support for Democracy! Earlier this year, nearly 200 donors and philanthropic organizations joined the Democracy Fund's All by April campaign, moving over $140 million in grants to ensure free, fair, and representative elections ahead of time. 🚀 Building on this momentum, Democracy Fund recently launched the "Election Day to Every Day" campaign. This initiative pushes for early and sustained election resource commitments for 2025, aiming to eliminate the traditional funding fluctuations of election cycles. Key Commitments: 📅 Start Planning Now: Confirm your 2025 democracy budget now. Don’t wait to develop a plan next year. 🌉 Bridge Funding: Offer bridge funding to grantees who are building long-term sustainable community power, move up payments to Q1, or let grantees know if you’ll be renewing support in the new year. 🤝 Multi-Year Support: Provide multi-year support, whenever possible, so that organizations can continue building toward a long-term vision of a more inclusive multiracial democracy. 🛡️ Safety & Security: Support the safety and security infrastructure that grantees need in the face of violent threats and the authoritarian playbook. 🔗 Learn more about the campaign and sign on here: https://lnkd.in/g5SbEGXW Together, let’s strengthen our democracy with continuous and proactive support! #Philanthropy #Democracy #ElectionDayEveryDay
