This past Friday, SVF kicked off our first-ever Detroit Impact Retreat. Our new class of Investment Associates brought our commitment to community-focused investing to life by spending a day in the Motor City. The trip was filled with education, team-building, and insights from Detroit's venture capital ecosystem leaders. A big thank you to the Urban Tech Xchange for hosting us during the first half of the morning. We had meaningful discussions on the importance of sourcing and screening through an intersectional lens in the VC industry. Our panelists also provided valuable insights on investing in Detroit. We appreciate their time and expertise! We are excited to introduce the five host sites for the Mobility x Society Innovators track in the MI Mobility Fellows (MMF) Program: Bloom; Energy Storage Safety Products International, LLC; OptimizeEV; Snowbotix; and Strut Motors, Inc. Though all of these positions vary with their responsibilities, they all involve leadership roles with an engineering emphasis. The 15-month program seeks to attract recent graduates (within the past two years) across all degree fields interested in gaining real-world experience in transportation planning and mobility innovation. By participating in the MMF Mobility x Society Innovators track, fellows will support the growth & development of early-stage mobility companies located within the Southeastern Michigan region. Additionally, fellows will participate in fellowship building, training, and other professional experiences to develop skills for the long haul. Michigan Central is thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the Michigan Mobility Fellow Program (MMF), a first-of-its-kind initiative to support mobility innovation and talent attraction and retention in the state by offering real-world experience, a $60,000 annual salary, and professional development opportunities. The program is made possible through the State of Michigan, Michigan Central, Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) and a partnership with Wayne State University as part of their shared goal of re-establishing the state as a global leader in mobility and technology innovation. “The success of our region’s mobility sector relies on retaining and attracting talent from local and national universities,” said Clarinda Barnett-Harrison, Director of Skills at Michigan Central. “Michigan Central is committed to supporting and developing this ecosystem with robust partnerships, including with the State of Michigan so that entrepreneurs can sustain and grow their businesses in Detroit and the surrounding area.” Applications close at 11:59 p.m. on July 22, 2024.
