Why OpenSauced, Why Now?
Brian Douglas' experience at GitHub illuminated the pivotal role of data in the success of open source projects. By engaging with maintainers and understanding their data needs, he witnessed firsthand how data-driven insights could catalyze growth. The trajectory of Kubernetes exemplifies this phenomenon, where contributor-led data analysis played a crucial role in its widespread adoption. This was learned from Brendan Burns and Kelsey Hightower when they appeared as guests on our Secret Sauce podcast.
Trend We See
Today, we observe a similar pattern with projects like pgvector, which is significantly impacting database valuations. However, our analysis reveals that a substantial portion of recent contributions originates from a single source. Looking at the last 6 months, 60% of the contributions that landed on main have come from the co-founder of Neon database.
