#EngagedLibraries support citizenship dreams. 🏛️ Many come to the US to seek a better life, and that impact can potentially be no greater than for youth. The Kansas City Public Library in Missouri recently hosted its second-ever naturalization ceremony just for children and teenagers, welcoming 75 applicants from 33 countries as they officially became US citizens. The library has a dedicated Refugee & Immigrant Services & Empowerment (RISE) team that works with those seeking citizenship to give them the tools to succeed in their reaching their goals and dreams. 📲 We want to know how your library supports those seeking US citizenship. Share your story on social media by including #EngagedLibraries and tagging OCLC in your post. You could be featured in an upcoming issue of Abstracts, on our community engagement hub, in an upcoming blog or video, or across our social media channels. ⤵️ See more from the ceremony. --- #OCLC #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

When the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) envisioned how to improve the sharing of its library collections across its 14 member institutions, they partnered with OCLC and Atlas Systems to implement OCLC's Resource Sharing for Groups—a move that has significantly improved their operations and expanded visibility of their collections. Brynne Norton, Head of Resource Sharing and Reserves at the University of Maryland Libraries, shares how this new consortial borrowing solution enables users to search the collective collection of the group and experience improved fill rates and faster turnaround times. “All of us in the BTAA use ILLiad to manage our requests, and the fact that OCLC’s Resource Sharing for Groups seamlessly integrates with it and the global WorldShare ILL network has been extremely helpful,” Brynne said. “These integrations also allow for modular workflows, opening up more possibilities for our libraries with multiple consortial commitments.” ⤵️ Read more. #OCLCmembers --- #OCLC University of Maryland Libraries #ResourceSharing #InterlibraryLoan #ILL #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

#EngagedLibraries read with all kinds of friends. 🐾 Reading to animals is a fun and popular way libraries promote reading skills. OCLC's WebJunction offers examples of pet-related programming in this recent article that features bow-tie crafting for pets, fire safety programs for furry friends, and library pet photo roundups. One program you'll learn about is from Jackson District Library Library in Michigan, which hosted the Read to a Dog (or Cat) event with adoptable pets. Children from the community practiced reading while also offering companionship to the four-legged visitors from the Jackson County Animal Shelter. 📲 We want to know how your library brings furry friends into programming.
