    Tyler, the Creator was there, 50,000 fans were there, and so were we. Last weekend, Converse teammates descended upon Camp Flog Gnaw, Tyler, The Creator’s music festival and carnival, to document the moment and get in on the action.     Our social team — we’re looking at you Kelly Kinton and Madeleine Allen — kept cameras rolling and even captured a drone shot to provide a virtual all-access pass to CFG’s happenings: Think headline performances, BTS with Alistair Chevalier, and this year’s style vibes, which were heavily influenced by Converse.     At our pop-up spaces, guests found limited-edition designs and Converse icons. Our North America VP/GM Brandis Russell even worked the tents alongside our store teams and additional Retail, DC, and HQ teammates. They had the opportunity to attend the carnival to stretch their skills and gain insight into another side of the business (as well as catch the performances, of course).

    "The thing I remember most about Rafa is the expression on his face when he’d get down — he’d twist his mouth and his eyes would narrow, and you would say to yourself, ‘Oh, look out, he’s put his game face on,’” says our co-founder & Chairman Emeritus, Phil Knight. “You could always see that tenacity. When he hit a forehand, the ball changed shape, he’d hit it so hard. And no one was going to outlast him in a five-set match.     Seventy-two teammates across North America. Six co-ed teams. Two nail-biting qualifiers. One championship title.   The Sole City Showcase began as a grassroots basketball tournament created from the ground up by our Distribution Center (DC) teammates in Memphis. This year, it spanned the entire country, from Los Angeles to New York City, as employees from our corporate offices, stores and DCs teamed up to hoop in the single-elimination tournament. The final stop: the Ja-Boree Championship Game—a nod to Ja Morant—taking place in Memphis, where the L.A. MAMBAS emerged as the tourney champs.   In the thick of the action were two of our own employee sportscasters, Octavia Wilson, B.Ed., M.S. and Paiea Kalili, from our Memphis Mid-South DC. After each game, they gave a full breakdown of the experience—recalling standout buckets, passes, and plays as Nike’s resident play-by-play experts for the company-wide recaps.   “Imagine coming into work on a Thursday, and walking into a packed full-court gymnasium with food and concessions, and watching your teammates playing each other in front of hundreds of cheering fans,” says Octavia, who works as a senior analyst in DC capabilities. “That only happens at a place like this.”   PK agrees. For him, watching teammates from across the country compete in front of a hyped crowd was incredible. “The energy felt like what you’d find at an NBA playoff game,” he says. Then, there was the role he played in emceeing the experience. “I work in Human Resources with our Logistics team, but Nike let me express my love of hoops and broadcasting by helping me be a sportscaster for a few weeks. If that doesn’t tell you that anything is possible here, I’m not sure what will.”   The moment was an opportunity to show off hidden talents, says Octavia, and also highlight the pride she feels for her teammates to thousands of like-minded hoop-heads and lovers of the game. “This brand understands how a simple basketball tournament can be one of the most powerful, impactful ways to bring people together. Not your typical work day, and not your typical workplace.”   Come be a part of it.     Take the everyday backpack, and make it easier to use for all athletes, no matter their physical ability. That was the brief for Nike Lead Equipment Designer Brent Radewald and his teammates ahead of Paris this summer. The end result is the Nike Elite EasyOn Backpack, a Paralympic innovation that’s now available on Nike.com. Now, every athlete can experience the benefits of a more intuitive backpack.     As a young girl attending a Native American boarding school on the Cherokee Nation Reservation in Oklahoma, Dr.Christine Panther remembers being taught the cultural practice of rising before dawn to greet the sun. That daily reverence toward the natural world helped inspire Panther, whose origins trace back to Oklahoma’s Kiowa, Quapaw and Shawnee Nations, to take up running throughout high school and into her adulthood. Many Indigenous communities across the world share the same sentiment: Nature can be a conduit to movement, which, in turn, is a conduit for change.   “Indigenous communities across the world honor nature through movement and sport,” says Panther, a Sr. Manager, Social & Community Impact (SCI) at Nike. “Sport is medicine. Sport opens up a world of possibilities outside our door, especially for our young people. That’s why the N7 Fund’s connection to movement and sport is so vital, and so transformative.”   Among Panther’s responsibilities within SCI is to help facilitate the N7 Fund application process, which is now open through January 6. The program recognizes nonprofits at all scales, from grassroots to the national level, that are increasing access to sport for Indigenous youth across North America. Watching these groups use the power of sport to change lives for the better is a privilege, says Panther. Her work at Nike, she says, places her within a proud lineage of Indigenous leaders and organizations, past and present, who see movement as a pathway toward transformation.       “The N7 Fund follows the proverbial wisdom of Indigenous communities to consider the impact of our choices on the seventh generation,” says Panther. “The children from this and future generations are benefitting from the tireless work of our partners, which the fund helps support.     Nike’s employee-led networks are built on the diverse, intersecting identities of all our teammates. This month, Paralympian Beatriz Hatz visited Nike’s World Headquarters and sat down with members from two employee networks — the Disability Network and the Latino & Friends Network — to share more about her overlapping identities as a multi-ethnic, disabled athlete.   Erica Korpi, a Senior Administrative Assistant at Nike, serves on the leadership team for Nike’s Disability Network, and was one of the moderators who sat down with Beatriz for a heartfelt conversation about the athlete's career, her summer in Paris, and her intersectional identities. Beatriz’s personal story hits home for Erica.   “I consider myself both a runner and a disabled woman,” says Erica. “Connecting with others like me, especially someone as incredible as Beatriz, feeds my soul. Nike’s core belief — 'If you have a body, you’re an athlete' — is brought to life through visits like these.
