One of the biggest mistakes we see candidates make in their interviews is not presenting their accomplishments in a clear and concise way. If an interviewer can’t follow your stories, it’s difficult for them to assess whether you’re a fit for our role and company. That’s why we’re not secretive about our expectations. We ask behavioral-based interview questions and interviewees should use the STAR method to respond. The acronym stands for: Situation, Task, Action, and Results. ⭐ Situation: start with a clear description of a situation you were in. Avoid rambling, but offer enough detail for the interviewer to understand the complexities of it. ⭐ Task: clearly state the goal. ⭐ Action: what steps did you take? What was your contribution? Let us know what you did, not what your team or group did. ⭐ Result: don’t be shy about taking credit. What happened? How did it end? Provide examples using data. This might seem like common sense, but job interviews (at any company!) can be nerve-wracking. Most people feel some sort of pre-interview anxiety no matter what the company is. For example, Proteus – our first fully autonomous mobile robot – has the technology to work independently around people. Jason Lively spent 14 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of first-degree murder and first-degree arson. After a decade of appeals, he received a call from his legal team saying that he was going to be let out of prison. His legal team worked with lawyers from Amazon to build his exoneration case. For the past 10 years, Amazon’s legal and public policy teams of over 2,200 employees have volunteered their expertise and resources to make a difference through our pro bono program, and this is one example of that work. When children flee from war, violence, or persecution in their home countries and arrive at the U.S.-Mexico border, they can face the same deportation process as an adult, often without any legal counsel. Our team has partnered with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) to represent children and help them remain in the U.S. This is another example. This need for pro bono work all around the world is greater than ever, and we will continue to invest our time and resources into the program.
