NCSL International Press Release We are proud to announce great news from NCSL International. We are jumpstarting the Metrology In Motion live webinars. On February 14th NCSLI will host a 90-minute webinar titled "Who Needs Another Session on Risk or Decision Rules"? This 90-minute session will help participants reduce some of the noise on decision rules. It will provide initial guidance anyone can take away. and start the implementation discussion in their laboratory. This session that aims to give guidance beyond simply requesting a 4:1 TUR or accepting a shared-risk scenario as with simple acceptance. Topics Covered Include: 1. Are my measurements traceable? Understanding metrological traceability. 2. The importance of measurement uncertainty. 3. What am I measuring - Sampling Requirements. 4. Introducing the decision rules for conformance. 5. Introducing the conformance decision and minimizing the risk for a safer, confident use of the calibrated item. Learning Objectives: Understanding What Measurement Traceability is. Know the role Measurement Uncertainty plays in Decision Rules. Understanding the Basics of Decision Rules. Be able to define Specific and Global Risk. These educational webinars are a no-cost educational opportunity for member individuals and organizations and only $30 for non-members. Please use the following link to the presenter’s bios and to register. https://lnkd.in/ey6tZD7b

Another great NCSL International Metrology in Motion webinar on the books for next week! Proficiency Testing - Understanding The Roles Between Lab-Provider & Accreditation Body. Course Overview: Introduction to Organized Proficiency Testing (PT); its vital use in Quality and Risk reduction in Metrology, Calibration and Testing service Laboratories. Role relationships are discussed in detail and the flow of the Event will be covered. Capability vs. Competence and staff performance often are misunderstood, PT is a critical element in ensuring your lab perform as expected. Topics Covered Include: This presentation will delve deeply into the intricate relationship between the laboratory, the accreditor, and the proficiency testing provider. It will explore and explain the responsibilities of the laboratory in preparing for and maintaining its accreditation, the proficiency testing segment. Furthermore, it will identify the obligations of the accreditation body and why they mandate proficiency testing within the broader context. The presentation will also explain the responsibilities of the laboratory, the assessor, guiding organizations on how to prepare for assessments and what aspects assessors should examine during the proficiency testing process of an assessment. Additionally, it will aid in identifying the risks associated with proficiency testing that laboratories should assess when conducting proficiency testing. 2024 NCSL International Technical Exchange Highlight: NCSL International would like to highlight another fantastic tutorial that will be presented at this years 2024 Technical Exchange January 22nd through the 24th in the French Quarter New Orleans. Dr. Mark Malburg will be presenting a tutorial on Surface Texture/Surface Roughness. Dr Malburg will lead the attendees through a discussion on the metrology of surface measurement (2D and 3D) and the many traps that people can fall into as they work in this realm. Then, using case studies and actual surface data, they will explore the analysis essentials (geometries, filtering, and parameterization) that are available to attempt to turn complex shapes into more manageable numbers. Learning Objectives: 1. Understand the basic principles of 2D and 3D measurement 2. Understand the limitations of surface measuring systems and the basics of evaluating these systems 3. Understand the importance of filtering and the concept of separating wavelength domains 4. Gain exposure to the many different parameters for “using numbers to describe shapes” For more information and a view of the lineup of all the tutorials being offered at this years NCSL International Technical Exchange click the link. https://lnkd.in/gq9UAy8y

NCSL International 2024 Technical Exchange Tutorial Highlight The NCSL International team would like to highlight a tutorial that will be presented at the Hyatt Centric in New Orleans January 22nd through January 24th. This tutorial will be presented by Edward Morse PhD Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Center for Precision Metrology at the UNC Charlotte. This tutorial is titled "Bench Level Decision Rules Based on ISO 17025 (2017)". With the 2017 release of the revised ISO-17025 greater emphasis on the use and communication of decision rules when stating conformity to specifications. This tutorial will cover how decision rules are described in the ASME and ISO standards related to uncertainty, and the terminology used to identify different decision rules, review of ILAC Guide GB:09/2019 and additional terms, a few exercises, and a we will investigate how risk is (or can be) addressed with choices about decision rules. Finally, a look at each requirement of 17025 that addresses decision rules and discuss how these requirements can be satisfied. This is just one example of the many stellar tutorials that will be presented and the incredible team of presenters that NCSLI has assembled to create an opportunity for learning and engagement.
