Feeling stuck in your career? You are not alone. 65% of the 3,400 professionals surveyed by Glassdoor last month said they feel stuck in their current role. That they cannot make traction. That they are in the same job doing the same role with nothing to show for it. No ability to advance. No ability to expand. That leads to job decay and ultimately a decline in performance that will lead unfortunately to involuntary separation. Professionals need to expand their networks and circles. They need to work through companies like ExecThread to find unique job opportunities that might not be found anywhere else. Get in touch with headhunters in your industry, not just generically. And make sure above all else that you properly assess your value proposition so that you are ready to negotiate effectively. The opportunities are out there and 2025 already promises to be a better year as hiring is beginning to open up post election!

A cautionary tale for all career professionals. If remote work is important to you, make sure the job market will support you wherever you work from home. We are just beginning to collect the data on the impact on careers of the work from home experience. Plan based upon the best path for your career trajectory. Not just the short term.

Our founder, Howard Matalon, spoke yesterday at a wonderful event sponsored by Women of Color in Pharma (WOCIP) about navigating the challenging landscape in BioPharma in 2024. One of the great takeaways from the presentation is on the proper focus on role in all of your career negotiations. Role is the most important part of a negotiation to get right because it controls every aspect of what you do and ultimately how you are paid for it.

Fantastic jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showing the gains employees are making in obtaining new jobs at the start of the year. 353,000 non-farm jobs were added with earnings increases. Job gains occurred in professional and business services, health care and retail trade among others. Economists had only predicted HALF that number. This is the biggest gain since January of last year. This bodes well for a period of employment migration as demand increases and the supply of talent diminishes over the course of the year. Feel free to pass along and have a great weekend!

A lack of connection with their people, which is the most important asset of the business. Read this report to better understand where the disconnects are between businesses and their professionals because they are your challenges as well for the New Year.
