Thrilled to have participated to the International Energy Agency (IEA) Global Conference on Energy & AI on 4-5 December at IEA headquarter in Paris! Many thanks to the #IEA for inviting me to contribute to the discussion by sharing both my ISGAN and CEM-MI Task Force on #AI view and experience. This high-level event brought together more than 300 participants from energy & technology companies, governments, civil society, and universities to delve into the transformative power of #ArtificialIntelligence in the #energy sector. The Conference highlighted the critical interdependence between energy and AI. While AI is demanding increasing energy for data centers computing resources and #storage, it also offers powerful tools and applications to revolutionize energy sector planning and operation, to accelerate #renewableenergy deployment, to enhance infrastructure management and #energyefficiency. It was also an opportunity to reconnect with key persons driving the energy transition, including Julie Cerqueira / U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Norela Constantinescu/ International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Alessio Cipullo/ Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica, Giacomo Bruni/Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica and many others, and in particular to speak briefly with Hon. Minister for Climate Kerry McCarthy/ Department for Energy Security and Net Zero that I had the pleasure to meet within the Mission Innovation context. I believe this event was crucial to advancing impactful conversations to help shape the future global energy strategy. #energytransition #IEA #collaboration #AI #innovation #renewableenergy

Honoured to represent Mission Innovation at the 6th RD20 Conference in New Delhi Last week, I was privileged to represent Mission Innovation at the 6th RD20 conference in New Delhi. This event marked a significant milestone as RD20 became an official MI partner during the 9th MI Ministerial in October 2024. The conference was an excellent opportunity to learn about the range of work undertaken by the RD20 members, build relationships and identify collaboration opportunities. The MI session featured excellent presentations by Rachel Henriques and Vineet Saini on the value of MI in Brazil and India. The discussions that followed identified numerous avenues for collaboration. The MI Secretariat team is ready to work with the RD20 on developing high-impact collaborative activities. Sincere thanks to: 👏 TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute for hosting the first RD20 conference outside Japan, the arrangements were excellent due to the efforts of Dr Sanjukta Subudhi and Shreya Singh under the leadership of Dr Vibha Dhawan. 🙏 National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), particularly Noriko Yoshizawa, for coordinating the RD20 activity. 🎯 The RD20 Action Committee members including Bill Tumas, Michio Kondo, Christian Thiel, for your work in preparing for and delivering the #RD202024 meeting.

📢 Knowledge sharing alert! Last month at #MI9, the MI Think Tank, alongside the MI Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission, and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), convened the first event of the new MI Think Tank Inclusivity Series – Meaningful Community Engagement for an Inclusive and Equitable Energy Transition. Today – we’re sharing insights from the discussion and unveiling the first Think Tank Report of the Inclusivity Series. 🧩 To ensure the success of technologies for a net-zero future, projects must actively involve communities and deliver concrete environmental, social, and economic benefits. Community engagement – including for early-stage and nascent technology development - is a critical piece of this puzzle. During the discussion – expert speakers including Gregor Robertson, Sharan Burrow, Shannon Sterling, Riccardo Toxiri, Hadiza Abdulmumini, and Mark de Figueiredo, Mission Director of the MI Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission Mission, shared the latest insights and concrete examples of community engagement practices that centre people and drive just outcomes in the early stages of energy research, development, and demonstration. The discussion highlighted: 💠 Collaboration gaps that continue to exist in the energy transition between all levels of government and local communities. 💠Community engagement in decarbonization and clean energy technologies – successful deployment of technologies like carbon dioxide removal and clean energy depends on early and continuous community engagement. 💠Just transition principles – and the importance of partnerships that go beyond basic consultation, with deep involvement from marginalized communities, labour groups, and youth. 💠Emerging markets and developing economies in the energy transition – where communities are playing an active role in shaping a just transition, leveraging local knowledge and international support.
