  • How do you know if your screenplay is any good? That's the question we're here to help you answer. Is your story good? Does it fit the current market? Is it ready for production? These are important questions that have long been answered mostly by human experience. While human experiences are always at the center of LumaLogic, we go one step further and build an algorithm to provide you with a fundamental understanding of your screenplay, which allows you to make changes that will lead to critical improvements. When working in large groups i.e. a film set, team members can often feel isolated and lose their sense of direction. This leads to production inefficiency, miscommunication, and poor team morale. It's every good producer, director, or any department head's job to unite their crew through a shared vision. This is why we're working to remove communication barriers within hierarchical structures by creating tools that visualize ideas and provide a clear Blueprint accessible to the entire production.     A challenge in relying on automated analysis to tell you what to do with your screenplay is that it often struggles with fringe cases because it relies on averages—it doesn’t understand the nuances. We do. Take the opening sequences of Paramount Pictures' Star Trek: The Motion Picture. While some fans adore it, general audiences found it hard to engage with. It was a $40 million gamble in the late 1970s—a Marvel Studios-sized risk by today’s standards. Though it technically succeeded at the box office, its troubled reception led to constraints on its famous sequel. It wanted to take big risks and be unconventional, but it couldn't see what that unconventionality looked like until it was already filmed and put together. Risk is both rewarding and perilous. Play it too safe, you’re forgettable. Push too far, you lose money. The uncertainty of where you’ll land fuels many of Hollywood’s fiercest debates. When you’re aiming for unconventional, clarity is critical—and averages aren’t the right tool for the job. We are. It happens when there’s no tension between Emotional Opportunities and Narrative Complexity. 🎭 Emotional Opportunities are moments that let audiences connect—fear, triumph, hope, and tragedy. 📚 Narrative Complexity represents the density of your narrative—the more characters, objects, and actions present in a scene, the more complicated it is. Emotion alone doesn’t carry a story forward. A scene packed with raw feeling but no narrative momentum can feel stagnant. Similarly, a plot overloaded with twists but lacking emotional depth can feel shallow. When these two forces wrestle for control, your story comes alive: 📈 A climactic moment of triumph hits harder when it resolves tension built up by meaningful actions. 💥 An action-packed chase scene becomes gripping when the stakes are tied to emotional consequences. That's why we track and measure these dynamics across an entire screenplay. By identifying imbalances—where events stall or emotions overpower the narrative—we help filmmakers craft stories that captivate both the heart and the mind.     How do we keep the cost down while still making good #movies? Fix it in pre! #Producers spend the most time on pre-production doing a million things at once, like working with writers to finalize the screenplay, budgeting, and scheduling. This process is often manual and requires a lot of attention. A small overlook in pre-production can cause massive ripple effects all the way down to post-production, costing money and more importantly, time. This takes the focus away from what should be the most important: crafting a good story. To overcome this challenge, we came up with a new approach: 1. Fitness Check We start by building a data-driven script evaluation system that can give us a quantitative analysis of a screenplay's structure, highlighting its narrative balance, emotional engagement, complexity, and pacing. While this doesn't directly determine if a script is "good" or "bad", it allows us to understand the material better and make an informed decision on whether if a script is fit for production. 2. Script Processing We then extract critical data from the script using "ScreenKit" - it's a suite of tools we've developed, leveraging high-end computing tech. With this data, we can generate a #Previs of the screenplay, create a script breakdown that details the complexity in every scene, estimate setup & filming time, and more. This allows not only producers but also writers and directors to communicate their ideas and visions much better, which results in a better outcome. While we let the machine do the "manual labour", human supervision is always required to make sure we don't compromise our creativity. It’s important to note that the results we get are only estimates and can be wrong -- -- BUT they allow us to be wrong fast. By identifying problems quickly, we can learn, find a better solution, and move on. This let us maximizes efficiencies, cut cost, and save time. Work smarter. Not harder.
