Our Survivorship Series program trains healthcare providers about the unique survivorship issues for young breast cancer survivors who have been diagnosed with breast cancer under age 45. This year, we are opening applications to cancer centers from all regions of the United States and Washington, D.C. We are excited to now be accepting applications until December 6, 2024. Biomarker testing looks at genes, proteins, and other molecules and then profiles a cancerous tumor. Within the context of breast cancer, biomarkers help doctors detect the tumor, understand the aggressiveness of the cancer, and customize targeted treatments towards those specific cancerous cells. The results of biomarker testing can often help determine prognosis and treatment plan and if the breast cancer recurs, biomarkers should be retested because they can change. We are excited to share that LBBC has been awarded 2 grants, raising $1,985,000 over 5 years, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Gilead Oncology. The grants are expected to educate and support over 400,000 young breast cancer survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer, as well as provide educational materials to over 15,000 health care providers.
