We had a great time co-hosting FOAK Pitch Night at NYCW with five incredible companies! Looking forward to hosting many more themed FOAK events in the future. #FOAK #NYCW
At the end of September, we hosted the first-ever FOAK Pitch Night at NYCW. The turnout was AMAZING - thanks to everyone who came. We had a packed room. Five groundbreaking companies presented their FOAK projects in 5-minute pitches, followed by 10 minutes of live feedback from key FOAK community stakeholders. It was a bit of an experiment for us, and we’re thrilled to report that it was a success. Here are the innovative projects that pitched: - Cemvita Inc.: Producing bio-oil from waste carbon sources with a 230 bbls/day sustainable oil production plant. - Anovion Technologies: Low-carbon synthetic graphite production with a $1B, 40k tpa facility in Georgia. - Heirloom: Direct air capture (DAC) using crushed limestone with a 17k t/yr facility in Louisiana. - Tandem PV: High-efficiency silicon-perovskite solar panels, scaling to a commercial facility that will come online next year. - Living Ink : Producing carbon black pigment from biomass waste with a $1M, 180 MT/yr plant. The feedback covered a range of financial and technical topics, from matching timelines with capital, improving cost efficiency, and honing market focus to improving downstream integration, handling O&M challenges, and securing necessary product certifications. We’re already planning the next event with improvements like longer pitch times, structured feedback, and more audience engagement. We’ve got a list of eager startups ready to pitch, so if you want to help make that happen, reach out! Special thanks to our sponsors for making this event possible: - Climate Finance Solutions - helps FOAK projects secure grant funding - Fluor Corporation - designs and builds the world’s toughest projects and supports the FOAK climate tech ecosystem as a scaleup and EPC thought partner - Khasma Capital (fka Nexus Development Capital) - deploys catalytic capital to empower development teams and accelerate the construction of low-carbon infrastructure, including FOAK projects. - Locke Lord LLP- full-service law firm that supports investment and capital raise transactions and commercial contracting related to FOAK projects in climate tech, energy transition and sustainable infrastructure. - Mark1 - a developer-as-a-service for capital intensive, FOAK climate technologies. - New Energy Risk - offers performance insurance solutions for FOAK projects. - The Schmidt Family Foundation - building catalytic solutions for FOAK projects with philanthropic capital. - Technip Energies - leading engineering & technology company for Energy Transition. - Trellis Climate - impact-first catalytic capital program enabling FOAK projects. - JF Strategies - building the FOAK community & FOAK-related programs. - V1 Climate Solutions - supporting startups raising capital for FOAK projects & firms exploring solutions to the FOAK gap through financial and strategic consulting. The NDC team had a great inaugural ride on the Sea Change on Friday as the vessel began commercial operation. It was amazing to see all the public and private support it took to get to this point!
Today, we celebrated the launch of the world's first entirely hydrogen-powered commercial ferry. Sea Change is owned by SWITCH Maritime LLC, and was developed by the company with support from a grant provided by the California Air Resources Board. The demonstration service is made possible thanks to sponsorships from a group of partners including Chevron New Energies; the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District; and United Airlines. The service will be operated by San Francisco Bay Ferry’s contract operator, Blue & Gold Fleet. Partner leadership joined local officials Rep. Kevin Mullin, CA-15, Rep. Jared Huffman, CA-2, California Sec. of Transportation Toks Omishakin, San Francisco Supervisor Matt Dorsey, and San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu to acknowledge this enormous milestone toward efforts to decarbonize the maritime industry. Sea Change will offer free transportation between Pier 41 and the Downtown San Francisco Ferry Terminal Friday-Sunday beginning Friday, July 19.
