Last night, San Bernardino truly showcased its dynamic spirit. At the city council meeting, the community’s passion was evident as discussions unfolded about the urgent need for effective zoning and land use laws. It’s clear that our community is eager for inclusive development that supports community and small businesses. Thank you to @icucpico for organizing the residents of the affected neighborhood. Thanks to @pc4ej for supporting. In our downtown, the heart of our community was beating strongly at @BarrioFuerza. Here, two dedicated local organizers Jocelyn and Hector, led an enlightening session on the significance of water conservation, emphasizing that “water is life.” Their volunteer efforts are inspiring as they look to educate our community about issues that need addressing. Adjacent to this, @creativegrounds in collaboration with artist brought together a wonderful gathering for ladies' night, complete with live music and arts. It was a celebration of local talent and female empowerment that added a special touch to the evening. San Bernardino is a city of contrasts—where challenges like last night’s council meeting are met with the resilience and solidarity found in places like @barriofuerza and @creatvegrounds. It’s a city where defeat and hope coexist, yet the sense of community support is unwavering. Let’s continue to support each other, find comfort in our community hubs, and push for changes that will uplift everyone. Together, we make San Bernardino not just a place to live, but a place to thrive. #SanBernardino #JustSB #inclusivedevelopment #inlandempire #arts #culture #education

Congratulations to Jesus "Chuy" Flores who has become a great symbol of what beautiful minds come from San Bernardino. We enjoyed participating in the community panel organized by you and look forward to working with you at your new position as Policy and Strategy Director at UCR's IE Labor and Community Center.
Last month, EA and Better World Group staff took a trip out to the Inland Empire to learn more about our projects in the region, hear from environmental justice leaders, and experience the IE's cultural hubs. The day was organized by IE local Jesus "Chuy" Flores, our wonderful Operations Team, and other EA staff who had previously worked on projects in the IE. Staff first visited the City of Ontario, the site of one of the inaugural California Strategic Growth Council Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) grants, to learn about EA's long-time technical assistance for TCC and work with the City to implement the grant projects. The team then traveled to the Garcia Center for the Arts in San Bernardino to hear from a panel of local EJ allies about their critical work for a just, inclusive, and healthy future of the IE, including Jorge Ozvaldo Herreria (ED of the Garcia Center), Miriam Nieto (Just San Bernardino), Alicia Aguayo (The People's Collective for Environmental Justice), Esmeralda Vazquez (Inland Empire Labor Institute), Mario Vasquez (Teamsters Local 1932), and Anthony Victoria (KVCR (PBS & NPR)). We appreciate their hard work, passion, and perspectives in the fight for environmental and economic justice. Lastly, staff enjoyed the exhibitions at The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum and ended the day with food and drinks to celebrate our last day with Chuy as part of the EA team! We will miss him and wish him all the best at UCR!
