Part of Riverside Art Museum, The Cheech strives to instill a lifelong love of Chicano art to visitors, near and far.
About us
On June 18, 2022, The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum ("The Cheech") opened to the public in Riverside, California, the "City of Arts & Innovation." Founded as a 501c3 in 1954, Riverside Art Museum (RAM) is one museum with two locations: The Cheech (which opened in 2022) and The Julia Morgan Building (which opened in 1967). RAM integrates art into the lives of people in a way that engages, inspires, and builds community by providing high-quality exhibitions and art education programs that instill a lifelong love of the arts. It was RAM’s desire to further engage and serve the community that was the impetus to create The Cheech, a public-private partnership between RAM, the City of Riverside, and comedian Cheech Marin—one of the world’s foremost collectors of Chicano art. Best known as one half of the hilariously irreverent, satirical, counter-culture, no-holds-barred duo Cheech & Chong, Cheech is also recognized as a preeminent Chicano art advocate. In the mid-1980s, Cheech began developing what is now arguably the finest private collection of Chicano art. Marin’s gift of approximately 500 works by Chicana/o/x artists—including the likes of Carlos Almaraz, Judithe Hernández, Gilbert “Magú” Luján, Sandy Rodriguez, Frank Romero, and Patssi Valdez—to RAM’s permanent collection makes the museum a repository for one of the largest holdings of Chicana/o/x art.

Thanks to YOU, Riverside Art Museum and Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum exceeded our Giving Tuesday fundraising goal! Through individual Facebook donations and direct donations, we raised $6575 and received our $5000 match for a total of $11,575! Thank you for your donations, along with your posts, shares and likes across social media, which amplified our message.
Give today! Donate to the Riverside Art Museum and The Cheech to uplift diverse artistic and cultural voices! https://lnkd.in/gH2UGnWr Donations will be matched up to $5,000 through 11:59pm December 3rd – Giving Tuesday! Your support today will make possible exhibitions, programs, and events for all ages that uphold artistic expression and increase empathy and understanding. This past year so far, we have welcomed 92,300 people from across the region, state and nation, to The Cheech and the Riverside Art Museum at the historic Julia Morgan building (we are on track to reach 100,000 by year’s end!). These participants viewed exhibitions, took guided tours, learned through art classes, or participated in one of our free Arts Walk or Summer Sundays events. In addition, our arts education team brought our Art-to-Go program to 30,000 K-8 students throughout the Inland Empire. And the Art Alliance’s Riverside Art Market welcomed 3,000 visitors and 100 artisan vendors. Between both sites, twenty-one exhibitions have featured 871 objects by 232 artists with the goal of amplifying local, Chicana/o/x, and marginalized voices and upholding artistic expression that increases empathy and understanding. The first $5,000 in donations received now through December 3rd will be matched dollar for dollar by a donation from Deena Imamura and Adam Guzkowski, RAM Trustee, essentially doubling your impact!
