It's always a #fun week when USPTO's #IP #Attachés come to town for their annual consultations every December! International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA)'s #ExecutiveDirector Kevin Rosenbaum kicked the week off by leading a two-hour briefing with #IIPA's members for the 14 IP Attaché and #IPSpecialists teams on challenges and opportunities #US #creators and #CreativeIndustries face overseas (#piracy #legislation #MarketAccess); IIPA then joined a group of like-minded #IndustryAssociations to #strategize with Geneva-based IP Attachés Marina Lamm and Hélène Liwinski on engagement at World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO and World Trade Organization; and finally, IIPA joined the #DigitalCreatorsCoalition meeting with the IP Attachés to discuss how #copyright #protection and #enforcement impact the U.S. economy - pictured, Copyright Alliance's #VP for #legal #policy Rachel Kim briefs the group about recent international #AI and copyright developments. About us
The U.S. copyright-based industries are one of the strongest and most dynamic sectors of the U.S. economy. The International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) is a private sector coalition, formed in 1984, of trade associations representing U.S. copyright-based industries working to improve international protection and enforcement of copyrighted materials and open up foreign markets closed by piracy and other market access barriers.

Today was one of International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA)'s favorite mornings of the year, with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce U.S. Chamber of Commerce Global Innovation Policy Center hosting its annual USPTO #IP #Attaché #Roundtable! Special shoutout to #IIPA members Entertainment Software Association's Senior Counsel Amanda Wilson Denton and Recording Industry Association of America® (RIAA) #SVP George York for moderating two fantastic #IPAttaché panels on #LatinAmerica and #Europe respectively, and huge thanks to #GIPC's Kelly Anderson and Ryan Denson for making the 18th IP Attaché Roundtable an incredible success! Here, China-based U.S. IP Attachés Michael Mangelson (#Beijing) and Juli Schwartz (#Shanghai), and Conrad Wong (#Guangzhou) shared recent updates about the dynamic IP environment in China. If you want to learn more about IP challenges facing the U.S. #creators and #CreativeIndustries in China, check out IIPA's 2024 Special 301 China Report - https://lnkd.in/eg2PYp9i.

It's the time of year when we all look back at the entertainment content we have consumed. IIPA glanced back to see all that we have accomplished this year, and we're happy to say it was a lot! We started the year off strong by submitting our #special301 report, and we followed it up with #advocacy for #copyright #protection and #enforcement. As always, our summer playlist included such hits as #AGOA and #APEP, followed by a fall filled with #NotoriousMarkets and #WTOCompliance reports. Stay tuned for our next releases, including the latest remix of our #economicreport and our Special 301 greatest hits!

IIPA can't celebrate a holiday without relating is back to copyright... So while you enjoy your turkey and pie, consider all the ways copyright allows you to enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday: • The cookbook you picked up to perfect your sweet potato casserole is protected by copyright! • The music playing in the background of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is made possible by copyright laws! • The broadcast of the football game that your family watches after stuffing yourselves is protected by copyright! • The app you sneak off to play to escape family drama contains source code protected by copyright!

IIPA turned 40 this November! We celebrated by doing what we love most - #international #copyright #policy #advocacy. We look forward to the next four decades of protecting copyright!

This month, #pirate television and movie site Braflix voluntarily shut down. Braflix operated out of Brazil and relied on third-party sources to provide #pirated materials to consumers. IIPA member company Motion Picture Association flagged Braflix as a “severe piracy threat” in EU consultations earlier this year. The site was amassing over a million monthly visits and avoided #enforcement mechanisms by domain hopping. On November 4th, Braflix announced they would be voluntarily closing, stating “we have too much to lose.” The site noted that part of their reason for closing was receipt of cease and desist notices from both the City of London Police and the MPA. This story is further evidence that the pressure that IIPA and our member companies put on pirates works to cut down #copyright #infringement. #Judges play a #critical role preventing #copyright #piracy and the #theft of #music, #books, #VideoGames, #film and #TVshows! International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA)'s Director of Policy and Legal Affairs Pete Mehravari joined a group of The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) judges from #Qatar, #Kuwait, and #Oman who participated in a USPTO #GlobalIPAcademy #judicial exchange led by #USPTO's Ameen Imam. Director Mehravari spoke about the importance of #deterrent #sentencing against #pirates and #PiracyOperators to not only stop future theft, but as a signal to the #Gulf's ever growing #CreativeCommunity that their content is #protected and #respected. Stopping piracy is a #global concern, but it is important to know how #YOU can play a role!

We are so honored to have worked with Copyright Alliance to draft this blogpost that addresses the importance of #copyright #protection internationally. A strong copyright ecosystem around the world helps boost U.S. #creators and the U.S. #economy right here at home!
In the final post of our 2024 High School Debate Topic Blog Series, Sydney Blitman of the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) writes, "The ecosystem of creators and consumers is not confined to the United States. Creators reside in every country and creativity is a tie that binds all of humanity." Read the post here: https://lnkd.in/eKR-gTxt
