On 16 November at the SDG pavilion, the first-ever science-focused and interactive 'Intergenerational Dialogue for Shaping Future Climate Landscapes’ was successfully conducted. The IEEE Young Professionals Climate and Sustainability Subcommittee and Taskforce share and celebrate this momentum built through meaningful engagements. IEEE YP CSTF Program Lead Yuhan (Sicily) Zheng coordinated this high-level session looping in World Meteorological Organization Secretary General Celeste Saulo alongside representatives from IPCC, UN Climate Change, The The Keeling Society, and the IEEE past president Saifur Rahman. Dr. Saifur’s participation and keynote opening also endorse a vibrant IEEE community in supporting the young practitioner in engineering, technology, and science moving forward in the climate and energy space. This youth-led event featured a discussion on the critical role of cross-generational collaboration in addressing climate challenges. With joint effort from UNFCCC, IEEE, and The Keeling Society, the panel explored solutions and best practices on key topics, including delivering meaningful CO₂ emissions reductions, creating a ‘glocal’ climate risk network, aligning carbon pricing, social trust, and prioritizing nature-based solutions. Moderated by young leaders and professionals, the event aimed to empower the next generation with the tools for science, policy, and climate action while driving actionable strategies for a sustainable future aligned with SDGs 13 and 17. This dialogue is intended to open a pathway to bring in the discussion on concepts like remote sensing and other related practices in technology in the next year. As part of our commitment to empowering young professionals in the field of climate and sustainability, the IEEE Young Professionals Climate and Sustainability Taskforce and Subcommittee was proud to sponsor and take part in a business pitch competition during IEEE Kenya Students and Young Professionals (KSYP) Congress 2024 on 8th November in Nairobi, Kenya. The competition was themed “smart living” and received many innovative solutions from across the country. Our Kenya team lead, Sifa Kinoti, was part of the judging panel for the competition, and together with other esteemed judges, they selected and awarded the top 3 business pitches. On 7th November, the IEEE Young Professionals Climate and Sustainability Taskforce and Subcommittee held a workshop during the just concluded IEEE Kenya Students and Young Professionals (KSYP) Congress 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya. The congress was aimed at promoting smart and sustainable living solutions. We were proud to be one of the sponsors and deliver a workshop as part of our commitment to upskilling students and young professionals in the field of sustainability. Our dedicated members from Kenya- John Njuguna and Brian Kipkurui led a battery technology workshop which introduced the congress delegates on the battery chemistries and battery forms. They also did a hands-on session on how to make a DIY battery management system (BMS). We acknowledge sustainable transportation through the use of electric vehicles plays a huge part in achieving a net zero world and we strive to bridge the gap in EV innovations.
