VISIT 2 - Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Development Reggie Harris and Director of Budget Thomas Herndon visited Eartha Farms and Market, a HUD Section 4 funded program launched by the Clara White Mission, in Jacksonville, FL. The most recent grant of $50,000 in fiscal year 2021, allocated to LISC Jacksonville, will support staff and program expenses at Eartha Farms, a 10.5-acre urban farm in Historic Moncrief Springs. Formerly White Harvest Farms, Eartha Farms is fighting to eliminate food deserts & promote food sustainability in communities of color. Specifically, HUD’s Section 4 funding is building the CDC’s capacity to expand the Farm’s community outreach and to design and implement experimental learnings and trainings focused on urban agricultural practices, environmental sciences, agricultural job opportunities and sustainability. The grant will help the Clara White Mission reach 500 people through field trips, workshops, and other events.
