  • 📣 News Consumption Evolution 📣 A recent Pew Research Center study found that about 20% of adults and 37% of adults under 30 are now getting their news from individual creators rather than established news outlets. The study also found that only 23% of news influencers have experience in the news industry. 🤳 News influencers who do not have a background in objective journalism might show bias or lack a thorough understanding of the topics they cover. Relying on them can lead to exposure to misinformation and erode trust. Essentially, news influencers without an objective media background and their increased influence may exacerbate the ongoing flood of misinformation prevalent on social media. At Hot Paper Lantern, we believe objective communication is critical to finding our way through this ever-shifting media landscape. How do you think this trend will shape the future of journalism and marketing? • 🌶 Let’s get to know Kim Bentley, HPL’s Director, Marketing Communications and newest team member, a little better! We sat down with Kim to learn more about her. Read some of our conversation below.   Hot Paper Lantern: What do you like most about your role? Kim Bentley: What I love most about my role is that I get to work with a team, and a very talented one at that. I also enjoy serving clients across various industries and marcom topics. It’s never dull and keeps me healthily challenged.   HPL: What news do you read daily to stay on top of trends and the news cycle? KB: For marcom and content, various LinkedIn channels, including The Marketing Millennials and Visual Capitalist. For news, NPR and Katie Couric Media on Instagram.   HPL: Can you describe a challenging project you tackled and aced? What made it so rewarding? KB: To date at HPL, the most challenging yet rewarding project I have tackled is helping position one of our clients in a constantly evolving industry. Our research and foundational strategy set the client up for successful execution and positive outcomes across its intended channels. HPL is passionate about helping solve those challenges by being an extension of in-house marcom teams. Having been in the shoes of in-house marketing communication leaders, I understand the difficulties of facing limited resources, time, and budget while trying to execute the strategic and creative elements that contribute to the success of marketing communication campaigns.   HPL: What’s a valuable lesson you’ve learned from a work experience, good or bad? KB: I have been fortunate to work with several outstanding leaders throughout my career, and I wish I could write a chapter about each of them and the impact they have had on me. However, I will focus on a few key leadership aspects I observed while working at the Cincinnati Reds. First, effective leadership involves recognizing the skillsets of employees that can benefit the organization, often before the employees realize their potential. It is essential to engage them in discussions about these skills to explore pathways that can lead to mutual success. When it comes to training, a practical approach is to follow this principle: “I do, you watch,” “I do, you help,” “You do, I help,” and finally, “You do, I watch.” This gradual process sets employees up for success as they gain confidence in their abilities.   HPL: What’s your favorite aspect of our company culture? KB: What I love most about the company culture is the essence of teamwork. It’s never all on one person, and everyone knows when to ask for help or offer it.   HPL: What do you do for fun? KB: My husband Luke and I love to spend time with our dog and many cats. We also love to travel. And I love bourbon–I’m from Kentucky and live right smack dab in the middle of the bourbon trail. Bulliet, my hometown-distilled bourbon, is my go-to.   🌟 Join us in welcoming Kim and recognizing the great experience she brings to HPL!
