Around the world in 2024, voters chose change: in South Africa, France, Britain, and Japan. But nowhere does the anti-incumbent trend matter more than in the United States. The global uncertainty created by an oscillation of power between left and right—from Barack Obama to Donald Trump to Joe Biden and back to Trump—in the world’s only military superpower has again left political and business leaders in every region of the world scrambling to spot opportunities and risk. Trump’s comeback victory comes in a dramatically more unstable—and dangerous—geopolitical environment. Trump must manage two wars and a U.S. relationship with China that has grown much more confrontational. For business leaders navigating the next four years, there are critical questions that must be answered. Read the full magazine story here: https://lnkd.in/ezGa_JH7

Yellowstone, and its depiction of those who roam Montana’s grassy hills and deep valleys, strode back into the nation’s TV sets on Sunday, with more than 16 million viewers tuning into the most recent episode. https://lnkd.in/eBfeiH9d Like a lone cowboy riding his horse into the sunset, the show’s co-creator and writer, Taylor Sheridan, seems to be living his dream. Yellowstone’s huge success has attracted boomer icons—with Sylvester Stallone, Helen Mirren, and Harrison Ford all signing up to work with Sheridan on other shows—and record-breaking viewing figures: The premiere episode of the most recent season garnered 15.9 million viewers. Strokes are the No. 5 cause of death in the U.S., according to the CDC. Most strokes happen in older adults, but the rate of strokes in Americans ages 18 to 65 rose by about 15% between 2011 and 2022, according to the CDC. While numerous factors—both uncontrollable and lifestyle-dependent—leave people more susceptible to strokes, there are simple changes you can make to help lower your risk. Revenge may be a dish best served cold, but others would argue it can also be served mashed, battered, and fried. Multiple proposed class-action lawsuits filed this week allege that four frozen potato producers—Cavendish Farms, Lamb Weston, McCain Foods, and the J.R. Simplot Company—conspired and shared trade information to coordinate price increases in 2021. “Armed with the same access to each other’s data on pricing and other sensitive information, as well as with a direct line of communication to each other, the potato cartel moves prices skyward in lockstep—harming all purchasers of potatoes in the process,” plaintiff Alexander Govea said in one complaint. Palmer Luckey, the founder of the $14 billion AI-powered weapons startup Anduril, has become the face of change in the defense industry. https://lnkd.in/eba8Vhj5 And with his mullet, uneven goatee, and Hawaiian shirts, it’s not the face you might expect in the generally buttoned-up sector. Unlike most polished, suited, and scripted defense executives, Luckey comes across as brutally honest and undeniably weird. In language that’s sometimes vulgar, he discusses his high-profile termination from Facebook; gleefully explains his various rivalries; and readily takes on questions that might make the average executive squirm. With Thanksgiving Day just around the corner, Macy’s is gearing up for the 98th edition of its renowned annual parade. The task of keeping the company in business for more than 160 years still relevant and positioned for growth is now centered around a pivotal strategy that CEO Tony Spring and Adrian V. Mitchell, chief operating officer, and CFO, are leading. To prepare for the holidays, Macy’s is hiring more than 31,500 full and part-time seasonal positions for Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Bluemercury stores, as well as its distribution centers. “Macy’s is still an iconic brand,” Mitchell told Fortune. “We have assets like the fireworks and the parade that’s coming upon us. But how do we create that imagination and that consideration throughout the year in a way that actually translates into sustainable and profitable growth?” Read more: https://lnkd.in/exj_UkRq
