We have some very exciting news to share. Healthcare Huddle has officially been acquired 🎉 Our co-founders, Jared Dashevsky, Brett Dashevsky and Harrison Kaplan started building Huddle right before the pandemic began. A year and a half later, Huddle is now part of Workweek - a new kind of media company. Through this acquisition, Huddle will now have more of the tools and resources it needs to grow and thrive, so that we can continue to inform, connect and strengthen the healthcare community. A huge shoutout to the amazing OG Huddle team (you know who you are) for all of the hard work and support along the way and to our Huddlers who’ve reinforced the value of Huddle. We are beyond excited for what the future has in store for the Huddle. Keep following for updates! https://lnkd.in/g-W4xx-5

Five years ago, I started Healthcare Huddle as a way to distill the chaos of healthcare into actionable insights for busy professionals. I had no idea if it would resonate or even last. But here we are—five years, thousands of readers, and countless lessons later. The journey hasn’t been easy. Balancing this with medical school, residency, and now a growing family has been one of the biggest challenges of my life. But it’s also been one of the most rewarding. Through Healthcare Huddle, I’ve connected with incredible minds, sparked meaningful conversations, and built a community that’s shaping the future of healthcare. Looking ahead, the next five years are all about expansion: connecting top talent, offering high-yield educational content, and building tools to help professionals and patients alike. Healthcare is complex and ever-changing, but one thing remains constant: the need for clear, honest insights. That’s what Healthcare Huddle will continue to deliver. I appreciate you and your readership! If you're not already a Huddler, become one right now... like...right now 💌 https://lnkd.in/dHi5Zxtm

Being a new parent has taught me a lot about sleep deprivation. My daughter’s cries wake me up throughout the night, jolting me out of whatever light sleep I can manage. It’s exhausting, but I know it’s temporary. She’s just a baby. But when I’m on ICU rotations, I see this same sleep disruption—and I’m often the cause of it. Alarms going off, lights always on, waking patients for meds or labs. The ICU is designed to save lives, yet it’s one of the worst places for a patient to get any rest. And unlike me, ICU patients don’t just lose sleep. Fragmented, non-restorative sleep can lead to delirium, which isn’t just "confusion"—it’s tied to higher mortality, longer hospital stays, and cognitive impairment that can last for years. The problem feels baked into the system. But it doesn’t have to be. I dive into this problem, its downstream effects, and evidence-backed solutions in tomorrow’s Inefficiency Insights newsletter by Healthcare Huddle I. 💌 Sign up and upgrade here to get the full breakdown: https://lnkd.in/dHi5Zxtm

Pharmacies are at a crossroads. For years, brick-and-mortar stores relied on foot traffic—not just for medications but for sales of everyday items like candy and toothpaste. Now, with the rise of online pharmacies and next-day deliveries, even retail giants like Walgreens and CVS are struggling. Both are closing stores as they try to adapt to this shift in consumer behavior. Unless these pharmacies find a way to compete with online giants like Amazon, the future of brick-and-mortar pharmacies looks uncertain. 💌 Read my latest: https://lnkd.in/e4z9UdHb

Two years ago, I wrote about Humira as the most successful drug in history, generating over $200 billion in revenue over 20 years. How did AbbVie keep it on the market so long? Patent thickets. By adding new patents as the original ones expired, they delayed biosimilars from entering the market. Eventually, after lawsuits and negotiations, an end date was set—January 2023. With biosimilars now in play, we’re entering a new chapter for Humira and the broader biologics market. 💌 Read my article: https://lnkd.in/eACDZtyD

The weight management market feels like déjà vu. First, it was nutrition counseling. Then, GLP-1 medications. Now, compounded GLP-1s are the new trend every digital health company is chasing. But in a market where everyone is offering the same thing, how do you stand out? That’s the existential question for companies like Ro, Hims & Hers, and others. And the answer might be in niches—areas like women’s health, diabetes, and heart health, where targeted care creates real, lasting value. In today's Healthcare Huddle newsletter, I explore: - How Ro’s latest moves highlight the battle for differentiation. - Why niches are becoming the next big opportunity in weight management. - What this crowded market tells us about the future of digital health. If you’re curious about the intersection of healthcare innovation, obesity care, and digital health, check out my article below... 📩 https://lnkd.in/erQt9rYD

Over the past decade, 1 in 3 pharmacies have closed—primarily brick-and-mortar independent pharmacies. This creates a serious issue: pharmacy deserts. Independent pharmacies are often key players in managing chronic conditions, and their closure removes a vital stakeholder in patient care. What happens to patient outcomes when these pharmacies disappear? It’s a question we can’t afford to ignore.

Humira’s loss of market exclusivity in Europe tells an interesting story: over three years, its market share dropped from nearly 100% to just 34%, as biosimilars gained traction. Now that Humira has lost exclusivity in the U.S., will we see a similar trend? Likely. I’ll be digging into the data in the coming weeks—stay tuned for more insights on how biosimilars are reshaping the pharmaceutical market.
