Did you know a third of our food is wasted before it’s eaten? What if we could cut food waste in half by rethinking how and where we grow it? Globally, 13% of food is lost between harvest and retail, and another 19% is wasted in households, restaurants, and stores. This isn’t just about wasted food—it’s about the resources, energy, and opportunities lost along the way. How can we turn this around? 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲: By growing food closer to where it’s consumed, we can shorten the supply chain. This means fresher produce and extended shelf life, reducing spoilage in stores and at home. 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀: Controlled environments minimize losses from pests, disease, and handling. This ensures more of what is grown actually makes it to the consumer. 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: More precise production planning based on real-time demand eliminates the issue of overproduction that often leads to surplus crops being discarded, reducing waste from the start. Food waste is a challenge, but I’ve seen first hand how vertical farming offers a fresh approach to tackling this global issue. What solutions have you witnessed that make a difference in reducing food waste? Share your thoughts below. ____________________________________ 👋 Rick Langille, CEO Harvest Today 🔗 Follow for more real world insights and inspiration 🌱 Empowering communities to grow fresh, sustainable food #FreshFoodSolutions #SustainableFarming #VerticalFarmingImpact

  • Partnering to Empower Communities with Vertical Farming 🤝 The work of our distributors and community leaders reminds us that real impact comes from collaboration. In Winnipeg, Siloam Mission has integrated the Harvest Wall, guided by Trina Semenchuk of Little Greenhouse That Could, to grow fresh lettuce and herbs year-round. This vertical farming solution enhances the quality of over 1,500 meals served daily to people experiencing food insecurity. At Harvest Today, we’re proud to play a small role in supporting these partnerships. It’s collaborations like these that demonstrate how technology can empower communities and make a meaningful difference. How do you push the boundaries of agricultural innovation? You partner with the brightest minds to push CEA practices and systems to new limits! We’ve just reached a new phase at the University of Wyoming, where our Harvest Walls are being installed, exploring innovative practices for real-world system applications.
Together we are going beyond the standard typical installations. We are pushing our technological designs and horticultural practices to prepare the next generation of agricultural leaders. Here’s what this means for the students and universities: 🌱 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀-𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Students will gain practical experience by experimenting with advanced farming techniques, preparing them for the future of Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA). 🔬 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: From low-light environments to nutrient variations, students will explore how to grow in challenging conditions, giving them a deeper understanding of agricultural resilience. 🌍 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄’𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: The university is not just teaching theory—it’s preparing students to be innovators in the agricultural space, with skills they can directly apply to solve real-world challenges. In collaboration with Dr. Carmela Rosaria Guadagno and Michael Baldwin, this initiative will equip students with the tools and experience they need to drive the future of farming. We’re not talking about innovation. Together, we’re here to prove it! ___________________________________________

  • 📍 Colorado State University SPUR Campus, Denver Colorado Picture this: The tower system that stood in this greenhouse had a potential yield of 176 plants. However, plants on the backside were not growing at all. CSU approached us with a challenge to double up their production. We said, "Say no more." Enter the Harvest Walls - each equipped with 60 / 90 plant ports per unit, increasing their yield to 300 plants in the same amount of floorspace. We also provided them with 4 additional panels they can swap with at any time. Taking the raised platform into consideration led to positioning the Harvest Wall Controller right at arm's reach for the growers. This is just one example of how the Harvest Walls can retrofit existing grow spaces to increase plant production by maximizing vertical space. If you're currently growing with a system that's NOT achieving consistent growth or producing nearly as much as you want, shoot us a message and we'd love to help you upgrade. #indoorgrowingmadesimple #harvestwall #vertigation #hydroponics #aeroponics #indoorgrowing #urbangarden #greenhouse #indoorfarm #controlledenvironmentagriculture

  • "I couldn't grow anything before, but now I'm a big believer that anyone can grow anything on these walls," Kim shares. Kim Moffatt started her "mini" indoor farm at her house back in 2022. Now she services Minnedosa and surrounding areas in rural Manitoba with the freshest leafy greens, fruits, herbs, and vegetables all year-round.
