Indore, ranked India’s cleanest city since 2017, is a model for #WasteManagement and reducing #methane emissions. GMI, with the support of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), published a video on Indore’s waste management keys to success, a companion to a recently published case study. The video explores the city's advancements in sustainable waste management, which helps reduce methane, support local jobs, and improve public health. GMI is an international public-private partnership focused on reducing barriers to methane recovery and use.
About us
The Global Methane Initiative (GMI) is an international public-private partnership focused on reducing barriers to the recovery and use of methane as a clean energy source. GMI provides technical support to deploy methane-to-energy projects around the world that enable Partner Countries to launch methane recovery and use projects. Through these efforts, GMI is: - Decreasing greenhouse gas emissions - Improving air and water quality - Improving human health - Enhancing energy security - Increasing worker safety - Expanding economic growth GMI advances methane mitigation in three key sectors: Oil and Gas, Biogas, and Coal Mines.

The World Leaders Climate Action Summit will be held at COP29 on 12-13 November. During the summit, world leaders will make national statements to demonstrate how they are advancing the Paris Agreement. These high-level dialogues will address key topics, including raising motivation for mitigation and adaptation through Nationally Determined Contributions and National Action Plans. The summit will also feature a methane and non-CO2 Greenhouse Gas summit with GMI Partner Countries the United States and China. https://loom.ly/Kypjjy0

Jalisco’s #waste sector emitted over 3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, accounting for 11% of the state’s greenhouse gas emissions in 2017. To better understand emissions from the waste sector and options for mitigation, Clean Air Task Force (CATF) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), on behalf of the Global Methane Initiative (GMI), worked with Jalisco’s Ministry of Environment and Land Development to model #LandfillGas emissions from three waste disposal sites in the state. CATF and U.S. EPA, through GMI, published the Jalisco Landfill Gas and Emissions Modeling Report, which presents the results of the modeling and proposes opportunities for mitigating #methane from solid waste disposal in Jalisco, Mexico. 🍽️ Today is International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste. 💡 Did you know that about one-third of all food produced globally goes to waste? 🌎 Since 2004, GMI has been helping countries around the world adopt solutions for reducing methane from organic waste, including food loss and waste. Reducing food loss and waste isn't just about saving food — it's about saving our planet! When food ends up in landfills, it decomposes and produces methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. By cutting down on #FoodLossAndWaste, we can significantly reduce #methane emissions and fight #ClimateChange. Learn more about our work: https://loom.ly/JLC4o7M

Let’s discuss methane on World Environmental Health Day. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas. Over its 12-year lifetime in the atmosphere, it traps at least 28 times more heat than carbon dioxide, resulting in a stronger influence on warming. Methane’s short atmospheric lifetime also means that reductions today can make an immediate impact to slow warming, and a variety of technologies are available to capture methane and convert it to useful energy. GMI has trained more than 50,000 people around the world in methane mitigation and recovery since 2004 and we look forward to increasing these efforts internationally as we continue to promote our tools and resources. #WorldEnvironmentalHealth
