Benjamin utilized down payment grants through the Native American Homeownership Initiative (NAHI) to make the homeownership dreams of Alaska Natives a reality — "Recently, CILC was able to assist a borrower in Anchorage, Alaska, who, over the course of two years, went from being unemployed and homeless to becoming a first-time homeowner. Working with FHLB Des Moines on the NAHI grant added a substantial portion of the capital stack that allowed our borrower to affordably access homeownership in a state where housing is limited and oftentimes out of reach for a substantial portion of the population." Exciting News! 🎉 More than $100 million in affordable housing grants has been awarded through the FHLB Des Moines 2024 competitive Affordable Housing Program (AHP), providing over 2,000 families and individuals with safe and affordable housing. 🏡 Affordable housing and community development programs are central to our mission and that's why we're thrilled to award these grants to 55 affordable housing initiatives through a collaborative effort between 41 of our member financial institutions! Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council recently had the opportunity to spend an afternoon volunteering at the YSS's Iowa Homeless Youth Shelter, preparing meals for the staff and youth. In conjunction with this effort, the Council donated essential items for the shelter’ including essential hygiene products, socks and winter clothing.
