Did you miss ECCMA's December webinar? If yes, you can check out the webinar slide deck here (or download from: https://lnkd.in/euYfuAwM), and feel free to make contact if you'd like to learn more. ECCMA's next webinar: Standardized Material Master Data: Saving Time and Money through Better Quality Data When: 13h00 UTC (8am US Eastern), Tuesday, 2025-02-11. Where: https://lnkd.in/exvyP_4i Zoom Meeting ID: 893 8871 3036 ECCMA February 2025 Webinar Description:   In this fast-paced webinar, Peter Benson, the founder and Executive Director of ECCMA, will be explaining how quality master data can reduce inventory by 50%, reduce MRO costs by 15% and reduce the time and cost of processing requisitions while dramatically reducing free text (maverick) spend and improving the accuracy of spend analytics. With over 20 years helping companies improve the quality of their master data, Peter has seen it all: from companies bought because of the hidden value of their inventory, to warehouses full of surplus stock, to requisitions that take 30 days to process and 60 days to fill with the wrong item. With AI being all the rage, data can provide valuable insights at lightning speed, but it can also be incredibly misleading; Peter explains how the difference lies in the quality of the source data. Also, as data becomes more valuable, you need to be more vigilant to protect it from being captured by software application providers; Peter will explain an easy way to protect your data from lock-in.

  • Thanks to Gerardo Leal for this great walk-through of the International Business Registration number 👏 Understanding the IBRN Through a Simple Analogy In our August post, we introduced the International Business Registration Number (IBRN) as a formatted Authoritative Legal Entity Identifier (ALEI) aligned with ISO 8000-116. Today, I’d like to expand on this concept using an analogy and explain why the IBRN is a cornerstone of efficient business data management. Think of an IBRN like an international phone number. • Just as adding a country code to a local number makes it globally unique and universally accessible, adding a jurisdiction and registry prefix to a local business registration number transforms it into an IBRN—a globally unique identifier for businesses. Why is this important? 1. Proof of Verification: An IBRN confirms that a company’s registration and legal name have been verified with the authoritative government registry. This verification can be revisited at any time. 2. No Duplicates: By incorporating the IBRN into your supplier master data, you ensure no “legal entity” duplicates exist—streamlining records and improving reliability. 3. AI and Data Integration: An IBRN facilitates access to third-party data for supplier validation, risk assessment, and ownership/relationship tracking. It’s a bridge to efficient automation and accurate insights. 4. Contract Clarity: When drafting contracts, using the Legal Name (IBRN) for identifying parties avoids confusion. For example: “This Agreement is entered into by and between Corning Life Sciences Inc. (US-DE.BER:572221) and Code Management Association (US-DE.BER:3031657).” In a world where supply chain data management and interoperability are becoming increasingly complex, the IBRN simplifies compliance, enhances data quality, and unlocks new opportunities for automation and integration. In a data-driven world, #dataportability ensures seamless transitions between platforms, empowering users and fostering flexibility. It reduces vendor lock-in, enhances customer experience and supports regulatory compliance. Standards like ISO 22745 (open technical dictionary) and ISO 8000 (#dataquality) play a pivotal role by enabling semantic and syntactic interoperability. Adopting #data portability positions businesses for agility in an evolving digital landscape. #DataManagement #DataGovernance

Data Quality and Unambiguous Exchange, and Supply Chain Interoperability and Integration ISO Standards: ISO 22745, ISO 29002, ISO 8000, and ISO 25500 - do you know their key parts? ISO 22745 is a well-established standard for data portability using concept encoding with an open technical dictionary, and was initially developed to fulfill cataloging needs of NATO. ISO 29002 brought in insights from various standards for a process to exchange characteristic data. ISO 8000 was produced to generate a series of standards for data quality, for industry, government, and beyond; this series is mature and is expected to continue to grow with new parts still regularly under development. ISO 25500 is for supply chain interoperability and integration and is a new series with several parts already working their way through balloting stages and with many more expected in the years to come as it has great reach. These series were all ECCMA-led projects; they have brought in participation from other experts worldwide, from diverse fields, to make truly international, widely useful standards. Check out the tables for an overview summary of the parts of these four series. Please make contact ([email protected]) if you would like to learn more or get involved. • Is the Accuracy Dimension Independent or Dependent on the Validity Dimension? When evaluating #dataquality, two dimensions often discussed are Accuracy and Validity. Accuracy is about how well the data represents the true, real-world value, while validity is about how well #data adheres to defined formats and standards. While both are critical for ensuring high-quality, reliable data, the relationship between these two dimensions is nuanced. Are they independent, or does one depend on the other? This article concludes that accuracy and validity are independent dimensions of data quality though the two dimensions can sometimes intersect. #datagovernance

  • By leveraging #ISO8000 within an organization’s #datagovernance framework, organizations can establish data #quality requirements, define #dataquality metrics, implement data quality assessment methodologies, and promote #data standardization practices. This collaboration ensures that data governance efforts align with recognized industry #standards for data quality, enhancing the overall effectiveness of #datamanagement initiatives. Note: ISO 8000-114 was published on 2024-03.
