“It's been the most powerful learning of our professional lives.” Last month, nearly 30 leaders from our League of Innovative Schools and Global Cities Education Network (GCEN) traveled to Finland to gain insights and practical strategies around the country’s leading approach to whole child development. The trip was part of Digital Promise’s Whole Child Development Implementation Cohort, a learning model built on the power of collaborative learning with and from education systems and leaders from around the world. In an article for K-12 Dive, Christy Northway (Surrey Schools (School District #36 Surrey)#36 Surrey)#36), Luis Correa, Ed.D (Gurnee School District 56), and Barbara Pape (Digital Promise) reflect on key takeaways from the trip, including effective approaches to fostering belonging through intentionality and focus, promoting teacher autonomy and alternative methods of evaluation and assessment, and designing learning for the whole child.
