Earlier this month, members of our Student Impact team visited #VerizonInnovativeLearning Schools across the country to witness #PowerfulLearning propelled by technology firsthand and ensure the schools' systems and processes are sustainable for long-term success. During #CSEdWeek, a shout out to all the teachers using technology to make learning fun and engaging for their students! Take Jack Maher, a middle school math teacher at Joseph H. Brensinger PS 17 in Jersey City Public Schools, who's using augmented reality to engage his students through real world applications. To teach slope, he had his class learn how to measure a line’s steepness by designing ski slopes and skateboarding ramps in the McGraw Hill AR app accessed through Verizon Innovative Learning HQ. That approach drove the lesson home for eighth-grader Chahd. “Doing it more interactively with AR this year, I just took in the information better,” Chahd explains. “When it’s more hands-on, it just makes more sense to me. Last week, Digital Promise’s Courtney Teague, EdD, ACC, Rita Fennelly-Atkinson, Ed.D., April Williamson, and Kristen F. spent an energizing few days exploring global, cross-sector solutions that are shaping the future of digital learning at the 30th annual OEB Global Conference. Three takeaways from their experience: • There is a shared humanity and desire to collaboratively solve the common challenges that learners face everywhere. • Technology is a tool to solve challenges in digital learning and credentialing, but the real work centers on people and organizations.  • The most powerful evidence of learning comes in competency-based assessment and digital credentialing that recognize the performance of skills in authentic settings and enable upward mobility. We’re grateful for this global, cross-sector community of education, business, and government leaders who are seeking the most innovative solutions from around the world to transform digital learning.
