DFBA recently participated in the IDGA two-day Biometrics for Government and Law Enforcement Summit in Reston, VA, to explore advancements in biometrics and strategies for enhancing face recognition and identification system operations. The event brought together representatives from U.S. Department of Homeland Security DHS Science and Technology Directorate, U.S. Department of Justice and others. Biometric industry leaders and stakeholders also attended, fostering collaboration on the evolving biometric needs of government and law enforcement. Notable sessions included: 👥 Mr. Geoff Stewart, Principal Deputy to the US Army Office of the Provost Marshal General (OPMG) & Director, #DFBA, alongside Mr. John “Neal” Latta, Assistant Administrator, Enrollment Services & Vetting Programs, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and Timothy Zolandz, Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) Program Manager, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) , participated in a panel discussion on privacy considerations, shared watchlists, and the evolving business case for biometrics. 👥 Mr. Glenn Krizay (Ret.), Director of DFBA, with experts, Ms. Janice Kephart, CEO, Identity Strategy Partners, and Mr. Warren Harris, Chief, Identity Intelligence Division (I2D) Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence & Security (USD(I&S)) explored the use of biometric technology and how to improve future vetting and screening operations. 👥 Dr. Patrick Cantwell, Chief Engineer, PdM Biometrics, PEO IEW&S , Christopher Hernandez NIWC Force Protection Solutions Chief Engineer, Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) HQ Public Safety Systems Chief, US Navy and Jeni Best, Branch Chief, Biometrics Program Office, US Customs and Border Protection examined the integration of facial recognition technology in vehicles for border security and base access control, highlighting real-world use cases and future needs. 👥 Mr. Shonnie Lyon, Director, Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM), DHS discussed the growing role of contactless biometric systems, face image quality standards, and a #DHS Strategic Sourcing Vehicle for biometric capability procurement. 👥 Mr. Scott Shockey, Division Director of Identity Operations, DHS, Arun Vemury, Senior Advisor for Biometrics and Identity Technologies, DHS Science & Technology Directorate, and Dr. Yevgeniy Sirotin, Technical Director of the Identity & Data Sciences Lab, SAIC identity and Data Sciences Lab had a panel discussion on improving facial recognition and identification system operations. DFBA attended the Transatlantic Dialogue on Presentation Attack Detection workshop hosted at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Washington D.C. This European Commission-funded workshop, organized by the European Association for Biometrics (#EAB) through the iMARS project fostered a constructive transatlantic platform, by gathering experts in Morphing Attack Detection (MAD), key stakeholders, researchers, and industry members, as well as European and North American agencies. The two-day event consisted of participation from the Department of Homeland Security (#DHS) Office of Biometric Identity Management (#OBIM), the DHS Science and Technology Directorate (#S&T), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the U.S. Department of State, the Canada Border Services Agency, and United States Department of Defense. This event focused on increasing collaboration and synchronization, by engaging participants in meaningful discussions, discovering transatlantic perspectives, exploring potential avenues for joint initiatives, networking, and sharing insights on state-of-the-art development, research, and challenges on Attack Detection. #biometrics

DFBA’s Biometrics Interoperability Standards Conformance Office (BISCO) provides a critical service to the enterprise, testing, validating, and updating biometric data conformance for devices with mandated United States Department of Defense standards, making it easier to find compliant products off the shelf and out of the box.
