We are excited to announce that Garrett Bingham (UTCS alumnus), along with co-author Risto Miikkulainen, has earned the Best Paper Award for 2022 from the Neural Networks journal for their work, “Discovering Parametric Activation Functions.” Announced on November 22, 2024, this recognition highlights his contribution to advancing AI research. UT Programming Team made an incredible showing at the South Central USA Regional Competition of the International Collegiate Programming Contest last month, with all four teams finishing in the top six, including a 1st place win! The competition featured 54 teams from Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. Aaryan Prakash, Dylan Smith, and Mark Wen from the top team will advance to the North American Championship in May 2025. The teams were coached by CS Ph.D. student Trung Dang, with support from professors Etienne Vouga and Glenn Downing. UT has been competing since 1997, first made it to the World Finals in 2017, and has qualified every year since. In the 2024 competition, UT finished 13th and advanced to the World Finals in Kazakhstan. Professors Vouga and Downing also earned coaching distinctions at last year’s Nationals, continuing UT’s legacy of excellence. . . . . . UTAustin, UT Computer Science, UTCS

Congratulations to Mina Huh a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at UT Austin, for earning the prestigious Google Ph.D. Fellowship! Mina’s groundbreaking research in Human-Computer Interaction makes technology more accessible for blind and visually impaired content creators. Her work, including the development of GenAssist, has already earned recognition with a Best Paper Award at ACM UIST 2023.
