Despite so many health AI-focused conferences and events, we hardly ever hear about who is paying for these tools and how they are deciding what to pay for. A reimbursement strategy in both the private and public sectors lags behind the fast-paced, ever-changing health AI landscape. This disconnect frequently leaves developers of health AI tools — and their funders — uncertain about whether their tool will be covered/reimbursed or if reimbursement is sustainable over time. Ultimately, the potential for AI tools to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs will only be realized if these tools are covered and reimbursed based on value, and not as another item paid within the fee-for-service model. The Consumer Technology Association is sharing our brief on the health AI reimbursement landscape. It includes the challenges developers face to get an emerging technology covered and reimbursed under the current system. Thanks to the wonderful team at Maverick Health Policy for their work on this brief. #healthAI #digitalhealth
