  • At times, we may find ourselves waiting for the perfect moment or opportunity to come our way before we decide to make a change. But what if that ideal opportunity never presents itself? If you're holding out for something to prompt you to take that leap, consider asking yourself: Is there a way I can create this opportunity for myself?

  • Did you know that there are other things you can negotiate besides salary? The truth is that you have the most bargaining power when you have been offered a position. The organization has decided you'd be a great fit for the position and they are expecting you to negotiate your offer. Sometimes we'll hear things like "the salary is firm" which means there's no wiggle room on salary negotiation. HOWEVER, this does not mean you should not negotiate anything. Consider what's important to you and what you want/need to make this job ideal for you. Would you be happier with more vacation time? A title change? Remote work options? By choosing to negotiate, you are signaling to the employer that you value yourself enough to ask for what you need. #salarynegotiation #careercoaching #jobsearching

  • CALLING ALL WOMEN! 📢 Even in 2024, we are still talking about the gender pay gap. Within the last decade we have seen more women gaining comfort in negotiating a higher salary but less movement in the pay gap actually decreasing. This means that although women are negotiating, they have not been as successful in obtaining a salary equal to their male counterparts even when their qualifications match or exceed their colleagues. Here are my tips for executing a successful salary negotiation: 1. Make sure you understand the compensation range 2. Research the expected range based on similar positions in the same region 3. Identify your career value and worth, in numbers 4. Have the conversation over the phone (it's much harder to say no this way!) 5. Be direct in your ask and back up your requirements with numbers, facts and data If you are interested in learning more about the gender pay gap and salary negotiation, I recommend a few resources: National Women's Law Center www.nwlc.org Pew Research Center https://buff.ly/3JBqvIG American Association of University Women www.aauw.org

  • Changing jobs every 2-3 years should NOT be a negative on your resume. Especially in today's work force, employers are used to seeing people work for several companies and recognize that with each new opportunity, they gained additional skills and experience to bring to the table. Don't discount your experience and the strategic decisions you made in the past. Own those choices and explain how they've gotten you to where you are.
