Climate startup finances are uniquely complicated. As a founder, you have enough on your plate - so as soon as you can, it's a good idea to call in an expert fractional CFO. But how should you think about this partnership? How should you pick the right "CFO" firm or individual advisor? For this week's Insight, we sat down with Jon Schwartz to talk about the nuances of Fractional CFOs in climate. Check it out!

Quick shoutout about Climate Vine (https://lnkd.in/dajFd2wF), a curated membership community to accelerate your impact. Great mix of tech, corporate, government, science, and activism, and I've enjoyed my time with the group. They’re hosting a few public events this month: first up, a group of fantastic climate VCs from Collab Fund to 2150 will share their “request for startups” they want to see built, then Harish Hande of SELCO will share hard earned social entrepreneurship lessons, and finally Zachary Brown will cover the elections and what it’ll take to get off of fossil fuels. It's hard to overstate how much Our Children's Trust's approach to filing lawsuits on behalf of youth — free of charge — to protect their right to a stable climate, has shifted and shaped the current climate narrative. That's why we're opening up a Climate Vine Expert Deep Dive on all things legal action in climate, starting with children suing their governments to Title 7, corporate treaty disputes and permitting ⬇ 🔑 The've led charges against state and federal governments, successfully arguing that they are infringing on the youths' rights to a safe climate system and providing examples for other legal organizations around the world to do the same. That's just part of why we're excited to open up our expert deep dive with Professor Paul Rink, where he'll explore his time as an attorney there, as well as non-obvious intersections of climate impact and legal action related to Title 7, investor state dispute settlements, and regulatory permitting reform around zoning and construction. Join us THIS Thursday, 12-1pm ET, to hear Paul and me go deep on these topics for the first 45 minutes and get the chance to ask your questions live in the last 15 minutes ➕ Event page: https://lu.ma/tm5djray 💬 Comment any questions or legal areas you'd be interested in exploring, and feel free to tag in friends and colleagues who might be interested in this topic!

✨ Over the past 1.5 years of running Climate Vine (and 4 (!) years of building in the climate space), I’ve learned a TON. These are the top 3 learnings on my mind today ⬇ 1. Climate is different than other sectors👨🎤 In some ways it’s more accurate to call this sector a new economy instead of an industry. For this reason, it requires unique understandings of financing, science, organizing, and leadership. 2. Climate moves quickly 🏎 Speakers and members alike share niche policy changes that affect new tech, go deep on entire sectors are born out of new innovations and needs in a rapidly changing world, and identify new lever points for problems that, when solved for, can make an outsized impact to our transition. 3. Bringing together diverse climate-committed folks in a thoughtful way is hard and SO rewarding 🔗 Through intentionally bringing together diverse folks, from climate activists to Fortune 500 leaders, philanthropists and scientists, we’ve seen new advisors and investment opportunities found, pitches honed, research and policy proposals shared, new jobs started and ideas expanded. Along the way, we’ve reviewed thousands of applications, welcomed over 340 Members, run 100+ expert deep dives and member-led events, introduced folks through hundreds of curated connections, started dozens of mastermind groups, and hosted IRL events at major gatherings and local cafes alike 🎉 I’m beyond grateful to the speakers, members and general Climate Vine supporters who have helped us co-create this space. And grateful for their continued support: over half of the most recent cohort was referred by a speaker or member 🙏 We’re now welcoming applications for our next onboarding cohort on October 9th to help more members accelerate their impact through personalized mastermind groups, off-the-record conversations, and supportive collaborations 💥 Join our upcoming Q&A to learn more about what happens in the membership, hear from diverse members, and ask your questions live — sign up here: https://lu.ma/jzadia8j And if you’d like to start the admissions process, apply now: climatevine.co/apply

Over a year ago I joined Climate Vine. While I may have been skeptical at first, it has been one of the best things I've done for my own personal and professional development in a long time. Finding community in corporate sustainability is tough. We're often part of small teams or teams of one and sometimes it can feel like our roles are at odds with the business instead of complimentary. I decided to join CV in an effort to find collaborators, partners, and friends. And I found all of those things through this impressive group of people. I couldn't recommend Climate Vine enough and the CV team is so awesome: Candice Ammori and Caleigh Bachop. Check out the link in the comments and watch my testimonial to find out more about why investing in myself through Climate Vine has been a game changer!

And today, we're launching our NEW website with our refined mission and vision, refreshed details on what happens in Climate Vine, and a simplified application for our upcoming cohort. 🎉 Building Climate Vine truly takes a village.
