Facilitating leadership we need for the times we are in, working with leadership groups to lead cultures where people make progress and thrive, crafting collective, collaborative, purpose driven organisations.

When I think about the next generation of #leadersweneed, I always think of these inspiring young leaders. This work is leadership in action. A group of young leaders working together to support each other in their leadership journey and at the same time inspiring and empowering youth from across the community to see their potential, use their voice and know they are part of something bigger than themselves. In 2024 this #guyungminig collective of young leaders has grown together and individually and have stepped into their leadership potential and they are making change happen. I for one cannot wait to see what they do next. The future is in safe hands and its happening right now in #darkinjung country. What a great milestone to celebrate as we close out 2024... watch this space. #leadership #youthempowerment #collective #future #celebration Barang Regional Alliance

Exciting Milestone for Barang Regional Alliance! Today, we proudly launched the Youth Empowerment Agenda, a transformative initiative designed to amplify the voices of young leaders across our region.   Our Youth Empowerment Agenda is a community strategic response to the priorities and visions of our community's youth. It is informed by youth voices from our Annual Surveys and Empowered Youth Summits and brought together by the collective work of Guyung Minig, our youth leadership cohort.   This was also an opportunity to promote the truth-telling of our community’s history, reveal our 2024 Empowered Youth Summit mural and reflect on the past two years of work on this project.   Special recognition goes to the incredible Guyung Minig Youth Leadership Cohort—trailblazers leading the charge for positive change in the Darkinjung community.   Together, we’re building a future where young people have the tools, platform, and support to thrive. This is just the beginning of a movement driven by youth for youth.   Thank you to those who have contributed to our Youth Empowerment Agenda, from those who attended today to Tana Duncan, the designer, and the youth whose voices created the agenda.   Copies of the Youth Empowerment Agenda will be disseminated via the community and on our website, but if you would like a copy, please contact  [email protected].

  • This one's for the Canberrans: are you considering coming to our Thinking Out Loud gathering on the 11th December? We'll be talking about the art of disagreement and how it relates to leadership. We'll discuss and work through what it means for us as individuals as well as for organisations more broadly. All in a beautiful central Canberra location. We would love to see you there... numbers are limited to 20, and registrations will close soon, so jump over to our website and reserve your place. And remember, you can bring a friend/colleague for free! *the conversation is based on prompts provided in our newsletter - there's a link to it in the comments #CollectiveLeadership #ThinkingOutLoud

  • What does it look and feel like to "disagree with grace"? We suspect disagreement is a core leadership skill for the times we're in. What do you think? Each quarter, we publish a short newsletter on a topic essential to the types of leadership we need for the increasingly complex times we are in. It's designed as a provocation and a conversation-starter, and it's called Thinking Out Loud. Subsequent to the release of each Thinking Out Loud newsletter, we host a gathering (sometimes online, sometimes in-person), where we come together and share reactions, ideas, questions, and experiences, with the aim of deepening our understanding (sometimes changing our minds!), and creating shared insights. In coming together, our hope is to actively practice and hone the art of collective leadership, while we inspire new thinking, generate creative ideas, and most of all, provoke conversations that are nourishing, impactful, and help us forge collective progress. In the most recent issue of Thinking Out Loud, we are exploring the idea of disagreeing with grace. In it, you will find a curation of ideas designed to provoke your thinking, some questions intended for sharing with a friend or colleague in conversation, and an invitation to join our very special in-person Thinking Out Loud gathering in Canberra in a couple of weeks. If you would like to access it, there's a link in the comments!

  • The second edition of our "Thinking Out Loud" newsletter is soon to be released. After the first edition, we held a virtual event where we came together to practice the art of "thinking out loud" together. The newsletter acts as a provocation for some big, collective thinking, sharing of insights, ideas, and challenges, and shaping possible paths forward. This time, to mark the end of 2024 and the Centre's first year in business, we are holding a special in-person event for our Canberra friends, clients, and subscribers. It will be an informal gathering, including a mini workshop with an opportunity to connect, and some festive refreshments (and coffee!) served. The event will be held on Wednesday 11th December, 7:30am – 9:15am. Venue TBA (we are gauging interest before we lock the venue in). Our theme is inspired in part by the US election and the anniversary of the Voice Referendum. It explores the idea that if we are to make progress on our most complex challenges, we need to practice the art of disagreeing with grace. In an organisational setting and on big complex challenges, we think there are two parts to this: recognising and navigating disagreement, and then making progress together. We are sure you will have stories and experiences to share and discuss, and of course the newsletter will prompt your thinking on this as well. As part of the experience, we will share the process we use at the session with you, so you can facilitate a similar conversation with your team or clients. So keep an eye out for the Thinking Out Loud newsletter! It will be in your inbox soon, and will contain a link for you to register to attend the event. If you haven't already subscribed, you can do so via our website! 🔗 in comments

  • Are you planning an end-of-year lunch or event with your team? Why not take it a step further and run a team session (or even take the whole day) to connect, reflect and celebrate your achievements in the year that was. We get lots of requests to facilitate end-of-year team sessions focused on team connection, navigating challenges and looking ahead. Teams often get so caught up with the end of year busy-ness and trying to squeeze last minute tasks that they miss the opportunity to create a moment to reflect, connect, and capture insights, ready to make progress in the new year. So this is your sign to make it happen this year! Give your team a boost by adding some substance to your end of year event. It doesn’t have to be a burden and it will reap rewards. Here is a simple session format you can use. We also have some great tools and frameworks for sessions like these, like the Strength Deployment Inventory (which is a great tool to bring teams together to have conversations they wouldn’t have had otherwise). Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need help - we can design and facilitate a session for you, or help you design one that you can run yourself.

  • Our Friday quote is in video clip form this week. A bit of a classic really. Still worth consideration. There are three points Brené Brown makes after this section of the clip that we love as leadership principles to remember. (We have paraphrased and added but hopefully with integrity). 1. It’s not about winning or losing, it’s about showing up and being seen - #vulnerability to put yourself out there (in the arena) and rolling up those sleeves and getting involved. 2. One thing is for sure, if you do show up and put yourself out there, you will be criticized, judged and (Brene’s words) get your ass kicked - it takes #courage to show up and be seen. 3. Don’t worry about criticism and critique from those who are not in the arena with you, the ones taking pot shots from the sidelines or criticizing without getting involved. #feedback when offered as #insight and #advice from those who are there with you, striving too - even if their strivings are different, have different aspirations or values around them - that is where the gold is. #CollectiveLeadership could be seen as inviting people into the arena with you, rolling up all the sleeves and making progress together. Some thoughts to end the week. You can find the full clip on YouTube as well if you are interested in hearing the tips from the source. https://lnkd.in/gXVZXzp3

  • Do you ever have that feeling when you’re energised and proud of achieving a small’ish thing and you think – I should mark this moment because it could end up being one of those - “remember when” … moments? Well, we’ve had a few of those this week, and to mark the occasion we thought we’d share them here! 1. We exceeded the first sales target for products and tools on our website – big thanks to our first customers - we really hope you are enjoying and getting use from those items 🙏 2. We submitted our first APS open tender bid as the Centre for Collective Leadership – awesome and so fun to do it together … and now we wait 〰️ 3. We received notification that we were successful in our submission for the Digital Marketplace Panel 2 (DMP2) in the Professional and Consulting Services category which means our APS clients can now find us there if they need our assistance or services. 🥳 4. We have had lots of incredible conversations with people requesting our services or flagging partnering opportunities so we are feeling the momentum emerging out of all these conversations and special relationships. Next year is starting to look busy for us 🤩 As a small start-up some days you wonder what you got yourself into, but this is not one of those days. We are living our message every day – just take those best next steps, iterating, adapting and responding… Onwards! We also discovered that we are nearly at 500 followers on LinkedIn and have nearly 100 subscribers for our Thinking Out Loud newsletter (which is due out any day now so keep an eye out). So to celebrate our milestone moments – we are going to give a free box of our inspirational quote cards to our 100th subscriber and also to our 500th follower. Maybe it will be the same person?! There’s a link in the comments to subscribe for Thinking Out Loud and be in the running to have your very own little box of inspo before they run out. So … Cheers to us, and to our wonderful clients, partners, supporters, and contributors. It takes a village ❤️ #Progress #BestNextSteps #MarkingMomentsThatMatter

The Centre for Collective Leadership is nearing the end of its first year, and what a year it’s been! To celebrate, we’re trying a new idea we’ve been playing with for a while, and it involves you! This year we’ve fielded lots of questions from people in senior leadership positions, change-makers in communities, facilitators and coaches, and even people diving into their first role managing a team. We've discussed things like; - how to make progress on complex challenges in the midst of constant change - what collective leadership looks like in practice - how to facilitate workshops that produce practical outcomes and outputs, and at the same time, facilitate reflections, learning, and growth - how to build the collective capacity of executive leadership teams - how to practice strategic imagination and build living organisational strategies (rather than static “strategic plans”) - how to have challenging conversations, disagreeing with grace Those conversations are always invigorating and productive, not because we have the answers, but because the exchange of information, perspectives and ideas helps us all deepen our knowledge and often shines a light on new possibilities. We want more conversations like these, but as you know, things get busy and there’s less and less space to sit down and have a chat. But we’ve come up with a plan! On the last Friday of every month, we’ll be opening up 2 x 30minute slots to talk about all things leadership, complexity, culture, strategy… whatever you want, really! They’re 1:1 (you’ll get either Kathy, or Mary-Claire, or sometimes both), completely free, and will guarantee you end your week with some wind in your sails. We’ll be starting our "clinics" on Friday 25th October and have two time slots available: 12-12:30 and 12:45-1:30. Send us a DM if you’d like to reserve a spot. #CollectiveLeadership

  • We have been doing a lot of thinking about the relationship between #productivity and #makingprogress. We have also been observing the real struggles taking place across organisations and our society as a whole in making progress on complex challenges. So we did some thinking out loud about it and we have written our thoughts down in our latest think piece which is now posted on our website. You can find the link in the first comment below. We would love to know your thoughts if you have the time to read it. This one focused on the issue of making progress on big challenges. Do get in touch if you would like to discuss. Does it resonate? Have you observed similar challenges and responses in your workplace?   We hope you find it useful. #leadershipforourtimes #makingprogress #change
