The following is a reflection from Father Joshua West, a member of the Catholic World Mission Board of Directors. __________________________________________________ Hoping on a plane as a priest is always an adventure. Often the comment, “thank God there’s a priest here”, is made. But some of the best moments are when these people ask for prayers and even a confession. One simple encounter with a person that I will most likely never see again. St. Thérèse of Lisieux, often referred to as "The Little Flower," is well-known for her "little way" of spirituality. She emphasized that holiness can be achieved through simple, everyday actions performed with love and devotion. Afterall, she spent almost half her life in a cloistered convent surrounded by the same women whether at work, prayer, or play. In our present world that seems to revolve around how many “likes” and “reposts” I receive, to point of anxiety, this saint of Lisieux reminds us of the value of one “like”. She invites us to focus on love in every action. Everyday we stand in front of individuals. Individuals with a need to realize they are known and loved. How many smiles and words of encouragement have I received at just the right moment? How many people have taken the time to hand write a thank you note? She reminds us that we can make a difference in our world through our small consistent acts of love.

On this 4th of July, take a moment to reflect on our God-given rights, in particular our religious freedom. Americans take for granted the privilege it is to receive the Sacraments and participate in Mass without fear. For many of our holy Catholic World Mission priests and nuns across the planet - the reality is very different. These brave men and women are abused and tormented because they choose to live the Faith each day. As you enjoy the fireworks, the hotdogs, and the time with your family, please take a moment to think about these Catholics and how you can help. A financial contribution today can enable these brave priests and nuns to help live and spread the Faith tomorrow!
