About us

Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 1,000 college and university presidents—representing some 6 million students—who are committed to fulfilling the civic purposes of higher education. As the only national higher education association dedicated solely to campus-based civic engagement, Campus Compact promotes public and community service that develops students’ citizenship skills, helps campuses forge effective community partnerships, and provides resources and training for faculty seeking to integrate civic and community-based learning into the curriculum. Members include public, private, two- and four-year institutions across the spectrum of higher education. These institutions put into practice the ideal of civic engagement by sharing knowledge and resources with their communities, creating local development initiatives, and supporting service and service-learning efforts in areas such as K-12 education, health care, the environment, hunger/homelessness, literacy, and senior services. Campus Compact comprises a national office based in Boston, MA, and state offices in CA, CO, CT, FL, HI, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, WA, WI, and WV.

  • Campus Climate Action Corps’s second service year is in full swing, bringing energy efficiency improvements, sustainability events, and environmental education to colleges and universities across the country! Check out these photos from our members! (1) Rashmi Mohan, working with College of the Atlantic, is creating window-insulating inserts for low-income community members in Bar Harbor, Maine. These inserts dramatically reduce window leakage to keep heat in during the winter. (2) Kevin Williams at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA is expanding the reach of his university clothing closet to support local high schoolers in addition to university students. This provides a sustainable and convenient way to reuse old clothes! (3) Cole Fuller at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY led an energy efficiency workshop on campus. Attendees received home energy efficiency checklists and energy-efficient items to use in their homes. (4) The CCAC team at Washington University in St. Louis in St Louis conducted an artistic event where students created hanging tree ornaments for the Ginkgo trees on campus. The ornaments shared poems, reflections, and facts about the trees and the importance of conservation.

2024-2025 Newman Civic Fellow|Advertising & Public Relation major at Barry University| Barry Service Corps Fellow| Marketing Assistant

Honored to Represent Barry University as a 2024-2025 Newman Civic Fellow In May, I was deeply honored to be named Barry University’s 2024-2025 Newman Civic Fellow, a recognition stemming from my experiences with Breakthrough Miami, where I held three impactful roles: Volunteer, Teaching Fellow, and Success Coach. From November 14-16, I had the privilege of attending the 2024 Newman Civic Fellows Conference in Chicago. This remarkable event brought together passionate students from across the country, creating a space to reflect on our work with nonprofits and discuss how we can continue to drive meaningful change in our communities and beyond. The incredible connections I formed with people who, like myself, are striving to make a difference left a lasting impression on me. I connected with individuals working passionately in areas such as youth development, mental health, voting advocacy, prison reform, depolarization, and bridging divides. Each of them shared their unique perspectives and unwavering dedication to driving change. Throughout this journey, I had the opportunity to teach others about the work I do, but I also learned so much in return. The insights and knowledge I gained during this time are lessons I will carry with me always. I feel inspired and humbled by the brilliance of the people I met—individuals I am certain will achieve remarkable things in the future. During the conference, I had the incredible opportunity to hear from inspiring speakers like Mahmoud Khedr, Manu Meel, and Tiana Day, who shared powerful insights about nonprofit work, the importance of community building, and why expansion and collaboration are vital for impactful change. Additionally, I was thrilled to participate in a research conducted by Sunah (Sarah) Hyun, Ph.D. from Tufts University, where I gave insight on ways to better support civic leaders and strengthen their impact as well as discuss challenges I've faced within being a civic leader. This experience reaffirmed my passion for creating positive change and reminded me of the power of my voice in this field of work. A heartfelt thank you to Campus Compact and Allstate for organizing such an unforgettable weekend. I also want to express my sincere gratitude to Barry University, Gabriel Bouani ,MS, and Paula Dias for believing in me and giving me the chance to embark on this transformative journey. This experience has only deepened my commitment to serving my community and inspired me to continue making a difference. Finally, A special thanks to Liz Augustin and Shanava Saintolien, MBA—two incredible individuals who have been instrumental in shaping my journey. Your guidance, support, and encouragement have been invaluable, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without your mentorship. I am deeply grateful for the role you’ve played in helping me excel and grow. #NewmanCivicFellow #CivicEngagement #Leadership #NonprofitWork #CommunityImpact #Gratitude
