🤝Strengthening partnerships for a sustainable future: CSEA and the State of California explore collaborative opportunities On December 14, 2024, CSEA welcomed a distinguished delegation from the State of California, led by Dr. Toks Omishakin, Secretary of Transportation for the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA), alongside Dr. Aditya Ramji, PhD, University of California Davis Institute of Transportation Technology, and Giles Giovinazzi,Senior Advisor, California State Transportation Agency. CSEA’s Executive Director, Dr. Chukwuka Onyekwena, presented key insights on climate financing, energy, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), highlighting shared visions and actionable ideas. On a rainy, gray day the California State Transportation Agency toured the California ISO. All systems go on a relatively low forecasted peak energy demand day. ✅🔌 It was incredible to see how CAISO manages the flow of electricity across high-voltage, long-distance power lines; operates a competitive wholesale energy market; and oversees transmission planning. ⚡️ Also a huge change in battery storage and the renewables portfolio since my last visit 8 or so years ago! 🔋 Decarbonizing the transportation sector in accordance with our state’s climate goals requires major increases in the capacity of our energy grid.
