At Builders Vision, we're focused on advancing efforts to protect and restore ocean ecosystems, and our teams are always seeking innovative ways to drive progress in nature and conservation finance. Today, we’re excited to announce our latest investment in oceans: a $70 million co-guarantee to support The Bahamas Debt Conversion Project for Marine Conservation, a first for a family office. This initiative is a collaboration with the Government of The Bahamas, the Inter-American Development Bank, The Nature Conservancy's Nature Bonds Program, AXA XL, Standard Chartered, Rothschild & Co., Bahamas National Trust and Bahamas Protected Areas Fund. It will unlock an estimated $124 million for nature and climate in The Bahamas over the next 15 years. The following blog post, written by our very own Rebecca Carland, delves into the first-of-a-kind role Builders Vision is playing, how it builds on our longstanding work to support ocean health in The Bahamas, and why other investors should consider debt conversions for nature to drive both economic and environmental returns at scale: https://lnkd.in/g43md9MM You can also read more in The Nature Conservancy's press release: https://lnkd.in/gKbC4x7b Congratulations to all of the partners involved, and a special shout out to the Builders Vision team that has been working for many months to help make this deal a success: Rebecca Carland, Bruce Hao, Johannes Lee, CFA, Peter Bryant, and Miranda Lindl O'Connell. We’re excited to see the lasting impact this project will have! #NatureBonds #Conservation #OceanConservation #BlueEconomy #Biodiversity #Bahamas #Investors #ClimateFinance #NatureFinance

Hear, hear, Melissa Garvey! Thanks to the leadership of our collaborators—like those at The Nature Conservancy—we can ensure that the Bahamas' coastline conservation efforts will prosper well into the future! #NatureBonds #NatureFinance #BlueEconomy #Oceans
I'm so proud of the many people who made this project possible for The Bahamas! 📢 JUST ANNOUNCED: A new Nature Bonds project in The Bahamas will unlock USD 124 million of new cash funding (plus an additional estimated USD 8 million of endowment investment returns) for conservation over the next 15 years. The Nature Conservancy is proud to be a part of this ground-breaking project, The Bahamas Debt Conversion Project for Marine Conservation, to support The Government of The Bahamas in meeting their ambitious conservation goals in support of both people and nature. With one of the largest systems of marine protected areas (MPAs) in the Caribbean, The Bahamas needs additional resources to ensure the effective management of its ocean space. The funding and technical support generated through this project will help The Bahamas support conservation goals and sustainable livelihoods. Effective protection and management of the world’s ocean are essential to protecting biodiversity, tackling climate change and supporting healthy communities and economies across the globe. The proven, innovative approach of our Nature Bonds Program combines debt refinancing, science, planning and policy to help countries protect ecosystems and support communities. In total, Nature Bonds projects have secured commitments to protect or improve management of roughly 238 million hectares of ocean and are expected to generate more than USD 535 million of new funding for conservation. #NatureBondsProgram Marcia Musgrove, Shenique Smith, Daniel Ballesta Quintana, CFA, Jordan Wellwood, MBA, Christine Johnson, Chantal Collier, Joanna Smith, Maryam Khosharay, Anna Gomes, Trueranda Cox, Robert Brumbaugh, Svetoslav Gatchev, David Rans, Ilan Goldfajn, Joan Oriol Prats, Gregory Watson, Builders Vision, Rebecca Carland, Miranda Lindl O'Connell, Peter Bryant, Becht Foundation, Lyda Hill Philanthropies, Office of The Prime Minister - The Bahamas

We are shaping the future of sustainable banking. Last week, we helped launch The Bahamas Debt Conversion Project for Marine Conservation, in partnership with The Government of The Bahamas, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), The Nature Conservancy, Builders Vision, AXA XL and other partners. We are proud to have played a leading role in this inaugural debt conversion for nature transaction for us, underwriting a USD300 million loan to The Government of The Bahamas that will enable it to refinance USD300 million of its external commercial debt. This is expected to unlock USD124 million to support ocean conservation and effective management of The Bahamas' precious marine protected areas – which provide critical habitats for diverse species, protect coasts from storms and sustain local livelihoods. Deals like these are just one of the ways we are applying its blended finance expertise and innovative mindset to unlock capital to the areas where it isn’t yet moving at scale.
