The other day, I visited a very busy psychiatric clinic already treating over a dozen patients with Prism for PTSD. What’s amazing is that this clinic started only one month ago. The team quickly selects patients suitable for treatment and explains to them how they will develop a mental strategy that will help them to regulate a digital brain biomarker associated with their symptoms. Then they can use this mental strategy to take control of their PTSD in their everyday lives. Good science, FDA clearance, and clinical evidence are the starting point. Placing it in the hands of professionals who ACTUALLY use it to help people is the end game. That is our mission. On Wednesday, Dr. Karen Giles (Sandy Springs Clinic) and Dr. Cecilia Kwong (Alpharetta Clinic) attended an insightful talk organized by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, the company behind Spravato. The talk, titled "Management of Two Subsets of Challenging to Treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in LGBTQIA+ Adults," was delivered by Dr. Neha Khurana from Georgia Behavioral Health. Dr. Giles shared, "There was a mixture of primary care physicians present who were learning about Spravato and when and how to refer their patients with MDD to treatment centers like ours for Spravato treatments utilizing a collaborative approach. We also got to hear about how other treatment centers administer Spravato for their patients. I was really struck by the statistics for how prevalent and at-risk patients in the LGBTQIA+ community are. This is an area of opportunity for centers like ours. The LGBTQIA+ community is 3x as likely to experience a major depressive episode as individuals who identify as straight. 40% of transgender adults have attempted suicide in their lifetime, compared to 5% of the US adult population." We are committed to staying at the forefront of mental health care and continuously learning about innovative treatments to better serve our diverse community.
