We’re excited to partner with Portland State University to lead conceptual design for a new performing arts + cultural center! Our design is one of three options being considered by the City of Portland. “There is nothing more inspiring than working with a great partner to envision a project that will be truly transformational for downtown Portland. This is a chance to create a visionary artistic and community resource to serve our city for the next 100 years,” said Bora Principal Michael Tingley. The proposed mass timber multi-use arts and culture complex on PSU’s University Place Hotel site will feature a 3,000-seat auditorium, a second 1,200-seat performance venue, a hotel, and community and educational space—a bold effort elevating the arts and catalyzing development within the downtown core. Associate Principal and interior designer Amy Running has dedicated her career to advocating for healthy and ethically sourced materials in the built environment, leveraging intentional materials specifications to thoughtfully evaluate every product and finish that goes into a project. She was recently appointed to serve on The American Institute of Architects (AIA)'s Materials Pledge working group, a platform that will allow her to help move the industry forward by championing healthier, more responsible spaces. We invite fellow design firms to join us in this important effort by signing the AIA Materials Pledge: https://bit.ly/3VNnStp #AIAMaterialsPledge #BoraArchitects #InteriorDesign #MoveTheNeedle

The integration of art within architecture serves to elevate design, rooting projects in their cultural history, strengthening their story of place and purpose, and honoring the journey of those who came before us. Whether acknowledging adversity, inspiring change, or simply engaging the senses, art installations have the power to evoke emotions and elevate the experience of design. Designer Diego Zubizarreta Otero, AIA, has joined the Bora team! Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Diego earned a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin and brings over six years of experience on projects spanning residential, educational, institutional, and commercial markets. With a passion for sustainability, placemaking, and client-centered architecture, Diego believes design provides intrinsic value in the way we live and relate to our environment. He’ll be relocating here from Austin soon so let’s give him a big Portland welcome! Austin vs. Portland, according to Diego: - Rain or blazing sun? Rain! Austin summer sun is TOO blazing! - Whiskey or coffee: Coffee - Swimming or hot-tubbing? Swimming - Breakfast tacos or donuts? Tacos - Barbecue or sushi? Barbecue with a slight advantage - Cowboy boots or running shoes? Absolutely running shoes - Dust or mud? Mud - Which one is weirder, Portland or Austin? Portland, by far! #boraarchitects #WelcomeToBora #TeamBora #Designer

The countdown is ON! The new headquarters for Literary Arts in Portland’s Central Eastside celebrates its grand opening this Saturday. The reimagined 1904 building preserves the beauty of the original wood floors, exposed wood structure, and extensive brickwork, honoring Portland history and the arts community hand in hand. Complete with a public cafe and bookstore, the nonprofit’s new home will serve as one of the largest physical centers in the nation for literature and storytelling.
