Recently Black Theatre United hosted a amazing career day “Broadway Bound” that had to share. I recall when I was young, wanting to be a hairstylist and not really having any resources to guide me in the direction of what type of career path I wanted. I thought this was such a great opportunity to showcase what we do in our perspective fields as it pertains to theater. “ Black Theater United (BTU) stands at the forefront of a crucial movement, dedicated to supporting and uplifting Black artists within the theater community. Their commitment extends beyond just performance; they are actively paving the way for the younger generation to explore and thrive in careers in theater. As BTU continues to champion the cause of Black artists, their dedication to nurturing young talent is a beacon of hope for the future of theater. By fostering an environment where creativity can flourish, BTU is not only shaping careers but also inspiring the next wave of storytellers who will leave an indelible mark on the world of theater. “

  • Since establishing our organization in 2020, BTU has been proud to create programs and initiatives that uplift marginalized voices in theatre, making space for authentic storytelling, diverse perspectives, and lasting impact in our industry. • "When we advocate for art, for theatre, we are striving to become known so that we may be understood, so that we may be respected, so that we may support each other and humanity. Empathy is the root to that, and to achieve it, we need people to look at all perspectives—not just the dominant ones." - Maxine Williams BTU 2024 Advocacy Award Recipient Maxine's speech highlights the transformative power of advocacy, storytelling, and theatre. It serves as a powerful reminder that every action we take, every ripple we create, holds the potential to inspire change and impact lives. This Giving Tuesday, let’s come together to build a more inclusive world—donate as you watch and be a part of the change. Any and every amount counts! Watch the full replay of this powerful message plus so much more, and experience this year's gala streaming tonight at 8 PM EST on our website: https://lnkd.in/eBGu4MKZ. #givingtuesday

  • Our bellies are full and we’re fatigued from hosting, but on Thanksgiving we reflected on a year filled with impact, connection, and growth. From the inspiring moments of the BTU Rise Internship to the joy of our Gala, the empowerment of the Broadway Bound Educational Program, and the meaningful conversations in our Town Halls, we’re grateful for every opportunity to live our mission. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here’s to the communities we’ve built, the voices we’ve amplified, and the continued work ahead to create a more equitable and inclusive stage for all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What are you thankful for this year?

  • This month, our students at Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School had the chance to hear from Broadway professionals about the many exciting careers in theater. The Broadway Bound Career Day brought in industry experts, both on and off stage, to share their experiences and offer tips on how to pursue a career in the theater world. From behind-the-scenes work to performing on stage, the event gave our students a closer look at the diverse paths they can take in the industry. A huge thank you to the theater professionals who volunteered their time and shared their valuable insights with our students. Your generosity and expertise helped make this event truly special. It was a day full of inspiration, and we can’t wait to see where our students’ journeys take them next!

Hey everyone, I know it's a bit late for a summer internship post, but it's never too late to express gratitude right? This past summer I had the opportunity to intern at RPM, a Broadway marketing agency, through the incredible support of Black Theatre United(BTU)! 🎭✨ This internship was a game-changer for me. Looking back, I’ve learned how to pull away key information from data analytics, partner with companies/brands, and collaborate on pitch decks for managing partners. Each day in this internship brought new challenges and opportunities to grow, and I embraced every drop of fun that BTU and RPM offered! From seeing 12 Broadway shows ,collaborating with my talented fellow interns, and meeting with talented professionals from various companies like iHeartMedia, Meta, Serino Coyne, The New York Times, and SpotCo.  I’ve stepped away from this experience discovering so much about myself as an artist, musician, and a young person aspiring to break into the marketing world. A huge shoutout to my amazing coworkers at RPM! They welcomed me with open arms, guiding me through their processes and sharing invaluable tips for my final pitch to the managing partners. Their support made all the difference in my learning journey. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next!
