Neurodiversity Speaker, Writer & Global ERG Lead at Philips | Content Strategist | Award-winning Photographer
I'm excited to join a panel at the United Nations' International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva later this month to discuss neuro-inclusion at work. During this panel, hosted by the ILO's Global Business and Disability Network, I'll be joining four peers from multinational companies to share learnings from our efforts to break down barriers for neurodivergent people. To be honest, from what I'm hearing from peers around the world, I don't think any major company can claim to be fully neuro-inclusive yet. We're not there yet at Philips either. But we're making significant progress, one step at a time. What's holding companies back, you may ask? I'd argue that the biggest hurdle is often one of mindset. In many large organizations, there can still be a tendency to prioritize processes over people, with systems rooted in one-size-fits-all approaches. We essentially expect everyone to be and work the same way – like cogs in a machine. But people are not machines. We are all different. For companies to truly become neuro-inclusive, I believe we need to shift from a process-centered to a people-centered mindset. Instead of trying to fit square pegs into round holes, we must understand and support what helps each unique individual thrive. This is exactly what drives us in our work with the Philips Neurodiversity Network. Every day, we work hard to amplify the voices of our neurodivergent colleagues. We are also investing in training to build the necessary skills and knowledge in our leaders, HR professionals, and others within the organization. For example, this fall, we are: 📌 Introducing 300 of our people leaders to neurodiversity in a series of learning sessions hosted by our employee resource group; 📌 Advocating for neuro-inclusive design of our offices around the globe, in conversation with leaders and real estate teams; 📌 Training our Philips Mental Health Champions to support neurodivergent colleagues who are struggling with mental health. I encourage you to learn more about the fantastic efforts of my fellow panelists to advance neuro-inclusion at work: 🔵 Karine VASSELIN – Vice President Group Diversity & Inclusion Lead at CapGemini 🔵 Naïma Aubonnet – Global Head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Orange 🔵 Tony Horton – Executive Sponsor Neurodiversity@IBM, Vice President Global Supply Chain Operations at IBM 🔵 Beck Bailey – Chief Diversity Officer at Accenture In our panel discussion, moderated by Carlene Clifford, Senior Lead Inclusion & Diversity at AXA Group, each of us will share key takeaways from our efforts in our respective organizations. 👩💻 There will be a public live-stream for those are interested in following along online: https://lnkd.in/eCkuupUH (feel free to reshare 🔁) #Neurodiversity Image: an invitation for the session “Unlocking neurodivergent talent: neuro-inclusive companies” hosted by the ILO’s Global Business and Disability Network, showing the speaker line-up.
